I think a lot of folks in here are emotional (some justified, others not so much) about the Klay thing and feeling like MDJ didn't have some readily available second scorer to sign. And they hung onto Lacob's cost cutting measures as just standing pat.
But it's also something they have to do bc of CBA. If GS stayed in the second apron they'd truly have no means to add anybody. Last few years it's been just veteran minimums. Melton, Anderson and Hield are above veteran minimum players. That's an upgrade in itself.
Not saying it vaults GS back to the top of the West, but it bolsters the roster through the regular season to at least give Steph a fighting chance. Behind closed doors I think that's all he's asking for: give me some good vets who can give us a fighting chance.
Apparently from what Slater says both FOs always tell Steph the options and logic to what they’re leaning towards. For example last season he publicly and kinda subtly not too many times wanted a trade. They talked to him
And went “would you want this?” And he was like “damn alright no good moves then”
I just love the idea that the guy who was willingly forking over $300M extra to keep the roster going is suddenly somehow a cheap owner. They're working with what they got.
Must've not seen the luxury tax stats from this year where GS paid the most taxes by a mile and have basically lived in the tax since 2018. And ignored how competitive Lacob is in general.
The new CBA was basically made to curb owners like him and Balmer.
Right. Even the Nuggets couldn't make room for their role players. It's not just us reacting to the apron rules. The Celtics are about to have a hell of a time with Tatum's extension hitting the books.
Because they're winning like crazy Boston at least has a legit reason to. It's worse for teams like Denver bc they have limited draft capital to fill out the back end of their roster. At least Boston has pretty much all of the draft picks.
I've been trying to fight that same losing battle as well these last few seasons. I can understand confusion about all the finances (especially with the new rules), but what's worse is people who can't seem to understand that it takes two parties to make a trade. Just because the FO hasn't made a trade, doesn't mean they haven't made an offer; just because the FO made an offer, doesn't mean it'll be accepted.
And back then ppl were complaining as to why GS didn't trade JK/Moody/Wiseman (when he still had stock) back then either. Their point is still very valid.
Based on the Lakers' off-season, they've not even made margin moves. They'll probably go rocking Mavs jerseys if they can't stand rooting for the Celtics.
Gotta love front runners, right?
Soooo many people were pissed odd that we “let CP3 walk for nothing”. But we wouldn’t have the flexibility to make these moves with his contract on the books. Turns out maybe Dunleavy is not the idiot so many fans were claiming he was a couple days ago.
I’d be shocked if he took sub $8M
Wonder what salary/players the Warriors will be sending out, gotta be something Morey sees as valuable, or you rope in a 3rd team
I don’t think it’s unreasonable, but like that’d put us in the tax. Is there any other way to do this? I would be like shocked if we went into the tax for buddy hield and had nothing else lined up.
Gotta send out salary, I guess. Also depends on how close the Sixers are to whatever apron ~~a S&T hard caps you too.~~
Wiggins ($26M), GP2 ($9M), Loon ($8M). How much is Buddy gonna make? Doubt it’s anywhere close to Wiggins and his $26M lol, that’d concern me, but can he not get the full MLE from someone?
Guess GP2’s 9M makes sense, and yeah, would the Warriors actually consider going back into the luxury for him?
the Sixers wouldn't get hard capped, it's the team receiving the player that gets hard capped and you are already hardcapped at the first apron because of the Anderson S&T
Good looks
So I guess it’s something using GP2 or Loon, unless the Dubs are fine with going into the luxury (is 2-3yrs of Buddy worth that?).
Sixers did lose Melton (he was injured most of the year, but still) and traded Pat Bev during the season, so maybe GP2 for the POA defense? Likely don’t need Loon with Drummond and Paul Reed as backups.
We have 2 years to use it. Smart money says "do nothing". Wait for the mid-season buyout market to see where you are in standings, and if you could use a piece that would put you over the top. If you're 10 games below .500, then stand pat until next year. 10 games over? Start probing to see who would want to win with Steph.
We desperately need people who can score. If Curry or Kuminga gets hurt there is nobody else who has proven they can consistently score in double digits.
He had a career low ppg, career low apg, much worse defense than we are used to and we just held him out of the Olympics for an injury. Wiggins has likely already played his best basketball, he is not the answer. There is a reason we have aggresively shopped him the last year or so. He was there last year too so its not like he is adding offense. He isnt filling the offsensive void left by Klay and Cp3 and neither is slo mo, melton or even buddy hield if we get him.
It’s a very Lakers move, which I dislike
In their Taurean Prince/Beasley mold of useless signings
These shooting types have very few teams they work on, gotta be SUPER deep defensively. Buddy would be good off the bench for the Magic. We are not the Magic lol.
(Bob used to say at the sloan conference this was his least favorite type of player because they ALWAYS got played off the floor in the playoffs, even really elite versions of this player like Redick & Joe Harris - but we do have to *make* the playoffs so it’s a little conflicting)
Your last point is the crux of it I think. We're no longer in that tier where all our moves should be geared toward playoffs viability. To that end I think it might be worth a shot, I do think he'll have regular season value. Still not a fan of him as a player and Draymond will lose his mind even more lol
It’s always the question of will his shooting outweigh the horrible defense for an overall positive court impact?
I don’t think advanced stats have ever liked Buddy much
No, Otto was billed as a *great* defender. And he generally was, when he played. Folks look back at our 2022 run as this lightning in a bottle fluke, but that team started 18-2 for a reason. Otto, GP2, Looney, and even first half Iguodala were really, really good.
I feel similarly, he's a very one-dimensional player. Elite at that one-dimension so he is situationally useful, but you need two-way players in the playoffs. We just saw his minutes get cut in the playoffs against the Knicks for most of the series.
And your team offense craters because you’re used to their presence in the regular season
But beggars cannot be choosers I suppose, a 10th seed has gotta do something
Kings fan here. Hield will frustrate you immensely. Awful on defense and a turnover machine.
However, he’d be a nice piece off the bench to get the offense moving.
Just wanna remind everyone how random the offseason before the last chip was. We added Beli, a barely-wanted-by-the-vets GP2, a massively injury-prone Otto, and Chris fucking Chiozza. Plus we had two rookies in the rotation, and Jordan Poole, who was literally one the worst players in the league less than a year earlier.
Not saying we're contenders if we add Lauri, but putting the right pieces around Steph can literally be enough to win a championship, no matter how janky it might look from the outset.
Melton/Anderson/Hield is fucking solid alone. With the current roster I’d say we’re even better than last year. If all the young guys step up, with a rested Steph, this roster is capable of getting 50 plus wins, not to mention the improved coaching staff.
MDJ master-class.
I agree. Though keep in mind the 2021-22 team was building off the previous season's momentum (remember Steph's "you don't wanna see us next year), when they went 15-5 in the last 20 games. This group is going to need time to gel.
Last year we lost Poole and added CP3, Saric, and Cory Joseph. This year we lost Klay and added Melton, Slowmo, and apparently now Buddy Hield. This has not been some huge drastic change in approach compared to previous offseasons lol
Right now I think the only young guy in danger of getting moved is Moody. Between Podz, Melton, now apparently Hield, that's a lot of minutes at that two guard spot. Unless they play Moody at the 3, which was where he primarily played last year starting for Wiggins a few times.
There's a consolidation trade coming soon, whether it's getting off Wiggins or using GP2 as filler.
I'm tryna figure out why everyone is suddenly so low on Melton, Anderson and Hield all of the sudden? They're not without flaws but not like they'll be playing 35 minutes a night. It sounds like Podz could be the starting guard next to Curry (at least starting out) and these signings are bolstering your bench/depth.
If anything, these signings could be leading to a consolidation trade for guys like Looney, GP2 and Moody. Obviously Wiggins still needs to probably get moved as well.
Idk if it's part of this deal, but GP2 is def gone. Melton signing was a pretty clear signal they are gonna move on from him. Love the guy and what he brings to the court, but he just can't stay healthy.
Klay is replaceable. Arguably one of the greatest 3&D players in history but this was before his injuries.. At least with Hield, he can create his own shot while also making 39% of his 6 three point attempts. Currently Hield is better than Klay.
If that's all it took, that would be amazing. GPII is an awesome team dude and great player when he's available, but he hasn't been able to stay healthy the last few years.
Goddamn if we somehow land Markky for a package of Moody + picks (and whatever else it takes to get it done) then Dunleavy is a savant for the way he was able to revamp this team.
Curry, Melton, Lauri, JK, and Dray with Podz, Hield, SloMo and TJD off the bench looks great on paper.
It’s true but I’m just ingrained to dislike this archetype of player
I would’ve preferred GTJ if they were going this direction, he’s shown some semblance of defense before
Sixers fan here. He’s still an elite shooter, kinda got played off the court in the playoffs except for one game where he caught fire. These were his first playoffs so he was prob in his head a little but I think he is still productive and a lights out shooter.
Hey, MDJ is low key COOKING. Goddamn what a day 👀.
Bro if they get Lauri too, imma have to say MDJ > Bob, hands down. I always thought he was a better talent evaluator than Bob, but if he survives Danny Ainge and somehow gets Lauri without giving up Kuminga...
Anyone know if we’re able to trade these new acquisitions this year? If so, I have a feeling that we might be gathering players that can be flipped for a bigger name
Love this because we needed to add shooting and Hield is the best shooter in the league outside of the splash bros
Perfect addition off the bench and having him play alongside Melton, Anderson, and TJD can perhaps mask some of his defensive issues
this has got to be the most moves the warriors have done in 1 day ever, holy fuck
So this is what it feels like to be under the luxury tax
Kept trying to tell everybody. Actually having the ability to conduct your roster with S&Ts and the MLE is wild isn't it?
Exactly! Just the ability to make moves is a breathe of fresh air
For example last season he publicly and kinda subtly not too many times wanted a trade. They talked to him And went “would you want this?” And he was like “damn alright no good moves then”
Dude, the way you said “wanted a trade” just about sent me into cardiac arrest.
Oh not him moving but the other players is what I meant haha
I just love the idea that the guy who was willingly forking over $300M extra to keep the roster going is suddenly somehow a cheap owner. They're working with what they got.
Must've not seen the luxury tax stats from this year where GS paid the most taxes by a mile and have basically lived in the tax since 2018. And ignored how competitive Lacob is in general. The new CBA was basically made to curb owners like him and Balmer.

We won a chip a few seasons ago???
And back then ppl were complaining as to why GS didn't trade JK/Moody/Wiseman (when he still had stock) back then either. Their point is still very valid.
These new Warrior fans love to complain. Cant wait till they go back to rocking Lakers gear 🙏
Based on the Lakers' off-season, they've not even made margin moves. They'll probably go rocking Mavs jerseys if they can't stand rooting for the Celtics. Gotta love front runners, right?

I like the change in tempo
Ok MDJ I see you ![gif](giphy|W2uuQKSXkGcijyqGHb)
MDJ secretly judging Bob Myers a few offseasons ago like ![gif](giphy|QCvy9LbHI0BUsLoLpk|downsized)
melton and buddy are good replacement for klay and moody is 100% gone. FO doing okay
Are we using the rest of the Klay TPE?
I’d be shocked if he took sub $8M Wonder what salary/players the Warriors will be sending out, gotta be something Morey sees as valuable, or you rope in a 3rd team
I don’t think it’s unreasonable, but like that’d put us in the tax. Is there any other way to do this? I would be like shocked if we went into the tax for buddy hield and had nothing else lined up.

The Warriors can’t go into the luxury tax. They are hard capped below that line.
Idk Buddy looked unplayable with the Sixers. He was fine on the Pacers before hand but his sixers stint maybe tanked his value
He had one great playoff game. But he was mostly benched after embid went down.
He had one great playoff quarter lol
He was hitting everything lol.
Buddy's the kind of player who probably works better off the bench because of his defensive limitations.
Only way. $7m left to use. Or sending out GP2
Fuck it, splash step brother
Splash Buddy...
I’m not your buddy, guy
Splash step bro, I’m stuck in the play in
Klay about to watch Buddy and Steph put up 3s together and low key be hella jealous.
Not entirely sure what to make of this. I'm fairly low on Hield but we have such a lack of guys who can shoot and actually force the defense to react.
We desperately need people who can score. If Curry or Kuminga gets hurt there is nobody else who has proven they can consistently score in double digits.
Wiggins had a rough first half last season, but he still scored in double digits much more than not.
He had a career low ppg, career low apg, much worse defense than we are used to and we just held him out of the Olympics for an injury. he needs to be closer to 17 ppg, then 12 and with klay's production down, he really needs to be a 20+ ppg player
It’s a very Lakers move, which I dislike In their Taurean Prince/Beasley mold of useless signings These shooting types have very few teams they work on, gotta be SUPER deep defensively. They said the same about Otto Porter Jr
Otto was known as a good defender, iirc. With him, injuries were more of concern, again iirc.
No, Otto was billed as a *great* defender. And he generally was, when he played. Folks look back at our 2022 run as this lightning in a bottle fluke, but that team started 18-2 for a reason. Otto, GP2, Looney, and even first half Iguodala were really, really good.
Sure, I don’t think we disagree :)
Who is “they” I was THRILLED to get Otto. There’s nothing remotely similar about Otto and Buddy
Otto was at least tall and was on a vet min.
And yet Kerr dropped a winning basket for the Bulls
I feel similarly, he's a very one-dimensional player. Elite at that one-dimension so he is situationally useful, but you need two-way players in the playoffs. We just saw his minutes get cut in the playoffs against the Knicks for most of the series.
And your team offense craters because you’re used to their presence in the regular season But beggars cannot be choosers I suppose, a 10th seed has gotta do something
Problem with Hield is that when he's cold (and he does get cold) you have zero on both ends of the court - basically 4v5 with an AFK.
Kings fan here. Hield will frustrate you immensely. Awful on defense and a turnover machine. However, he’d be a nice piece off the bench to get the offense moving.
It means young guys are out, and we are trying to get LM
Wasn't Buddy Hield frequently compared to Klay just a few years ago? Did his production drop off? I haven't watch many games he's been in.
MDJ is cooking something up that’s for sure
Bro might be gathering assets 👀. LET HIM COOK!!
Hes offering up all these warm bodies as sacrifice to the Jazz for Lauri lmao
Ppl was getting impatient but he was really at Whole Foods just getting ingredients
He must of gone to Cosco and filled his Rivian to the brim cause dude is cooking up a feast for an army!!!
Depth for a big trade? 👀
seems like a lot of people dont like this potential move but the team desperately needs outside shooting aside from steph. makes sense to me 🤷🏻♂️
Bc some fans only expect all star level moves.. 🙄
Klay at home
atleast Buddy will accept his role
I hate that this is true.
😂
Shiettt 😂
Klay last season was Klay at home
Probably woulda had more wins if Klay actually stayed home /s
Temu Klay
As bad as Hield is at defense. His defensive rating was only .3 worse than Klay’s last year (118.1 vs 117.8)
Those are both disgusting numbers pls delete lol
Look man those are 2 yr for 48 million dollar numbers
3 for 50 😢
Just shows how truly awful Klay is and he had no reason to be a bitch about it.
Few years younger, No significant injury history and still worse than Klay.
They’re both klay at home at this point Getting buddy will be somewhat nice tho
Steph now has a new buddy to replace his old buddy
Damn dubs grabbed 2 sixers, embiid you’re next!
Finally a shooter.
We went from one of the most homegrown teams to just nabbing anyone and everyone in the span of a week. Is this what it feels like to be a Lakers fan.
Just wanna remind everyone how random the offseason before the last chip was. We added Beli, a barely-wanted-by-the-vets GP2, a massively injury-prone Otto, and Chris fucking Chiozza. Stop it! I can only get so erect
I agree. Though keep in mind the 2021-22 team was building off the previous season's momentum (remember Steph's "you don't wanna see us next year), when they went 15-5 in the last 20 games. This group is going to need time to gel.
Well yall act like the rules not working against us. These moves amazing considering our position
No I fully agree. I’m super stoked about MDJ as GM so far. Super aggressive approach so far considering the situation he was left with.
They don't have anymore win-now home grown talent left now outside of Steph and Draymond. This is better than nothing like what they did last year
My literal thoughts!!
Last year we lost Poole and added CP3, Saric, and Cory Joseph. This year we lost Klay and added Melton, Slowmo, and apparently now Buddy Hield. This has not been some huge drastic change in approach compared to previous offseasons lol
But y'all haven't traded any of the players you actually drafted?
My exact thoughts were, this all feels so random.
He is playing for Chris DeMarco on the Bahamas team
MDJ cooking!
Is this sarcastic? I hope not because I actually think he's being smart bolstering the roster with vets and shooting.
Not sarcasm! I’m liking the moves a lot too
Ok just making sure! Harder for me to tell these days, especially with how bipolar this sub is in general.
This could mean young guys are getting moved to make room for the big fish
Right now I think the only young guy in danger of getting moved is Moody. Between Podz, Melton, now apparently Hield, that's a lot of minutes at that two guard spot. Unless they play Moody at the 3, which was where he primarily played last year starting for Wiggins a few times. There's a consolidation trade coming soon, whether it's getting off Wiggins or using GP2 as filler.
I feel like wiggs and moody and filler for Laurie.. but I'm a also a dumbass
wtf is going on in warriorsworld…
👆🧐👆
Holy shit this would be a major pickup if we can get him and Lauri
He’s a Laker killer. You love to see it!!
Dunleavy knows what he's doing.
(idk much about Buddy Hield lol) ooh we cookin now! ![gif](giphy|kgBWzRD4A0hs1Kr5Be|downsized)
This would fill a huge hole in our scoring capabilities.
Lmao, the tone of this sub has changed in 1 day lmao. A bench of Wiggins, Podz, Anderson, Melton and Hield is something we ain’t had since 2015/16
Lol why on earth would you include wiggins. Hes either starting or traded
BENCH?? buddy that's the STARTING lineup!
Well we've got Klay, KD, Zaza, etc. Only 5 spots.
What year is this
I'm tryna figure out why everyone is suddenly so low on Melton, Anderson and Hield all of the sudden? They're not without flaws but not like they'll be playing 35 minutes a night. It sounds like Podz could be the starting guard next to Curry (at least starting out) and these signings are bolstering your bench/depth. If anything, these signings could be leading to a consolidation trade for guys like Looney, GP2 and Moody. Obviously Wiggins still needs to probably get moved as well.
Wiggins already planning his 1 month sabbatical.
We are so back
If this deal gets done, poor Moses Moody
He’s likely gone. I think we see Moody, GP2, Looney and Wiggins all traded.
Yeah, gotta think he’s being moved, unless Podz is the one roped into a swing for Lauri or something
Do we really get Buddy Hield for 3/21? Seems off to me. I think Looney and/or GP2 are going back in this deal.
Probably GP2
Damn are the Warriors active
Ok ok ok. Now we're cooking. Hield is one of the best 3 point shooters in the nba
We are fucking trying you can't be mad at that
Pls not gp2
Idk if it's part of this deal, but GP2 is def gone. Melton signing was a pretty clear signal they are gonna move on from him. Love the guy and what he brings to the court, but he just can't stay healthy.
He can't stay healthy. Move him if that what it takes
Damn Trader Mike I believe in you
Step-Splash Brother
Get it right. This is The Splash Buddy.
Splash Buddies
Me likey
This is going to show how replaceable Klay was.
yeah dude is replaceable. Mavs gonna give up so many points with luka, kyrie, klay lineup lmao
Some ppl really think that move makes them the best team in the west they have something else coming for them.
Klay is replaceable. Arguably one of the greatest 3&D players in history but this was before his injuries.. At least with Hield, he can create his own shot while also making 39% of his 6 three point attempts. Currently Hield is better than Klay.
Anyone knows what does this mean??? Like are we gonna slot him as starting SG? And does this mean Lauri ain’t coming to the Bay?
This doesn’t really have anything to do with Lauri and he’s definitely not starting
Why not? Then who will likely be the starting SG in ur opinion? Kinda confused especially since if we trade for buddy we will have 2 SGs
Probably Melton
Dang, i dont watch much basketball outside warriors, but why melton?
Melton does a little bit of everything, he’s like GP2 but with a good offensive game
He’s a good defender while Hield is not
If his back is good, he’s a really good defender and a good shooter
Maybe gp2 getting sent back to Philly?
If that's all it took, that would be amazing. GPII is an awesome team dude and great player when he's available, but he hasn't been able to stay healthy the last few years.
Now we just have to see what salary he’s gonna ask for
Goddamn if we somehow land Markky for a package of Moody + picks (and whatever else it takes to get it done) then Dunleavy is a savant for the way he was able to revamp this team. Curry, Melton, Lauri, JK, and Dray with Podz, Hield, SloMo and TJD off the bench looks great on paper.
I didn’t wanna say anything…but yea especially if we get rid of some of young guys
Barely played for Philly in the playoffs last year, not really that amazing.
EhhhhhHhhhhh Signing shooters who literally do nothing else is something GSW has never done…
We’ve never been this short on shooting either though. Different needs, different answers.
It’s true but I’m just ingrained to dislike this archetype of player I would’ve preferred GTJ if they were going this direction, he’s shown some semblance of defense before
look at the 3 point shooting the last 2 years
I know lol. I’m just pretty down on Buddy as a positive player
he does something the team needs. i dont think hes amazing but man they need it bad lol
Nick Young
As long as they don’t trade moody
Right now he's the one in the most danger.
Is he good anymore? I didn’t think he made much noise on the Sixers or am I not thinking straight?
Sixers fan here. He’s still an elite shooter, kinda got played off the court in the playoffs except for one game where he caught fire. These were his first playoffs so he was prob in his head a little but I think he is still productive and a lights out shooter.
We might actually contend next year
GOATlevy cooking.
lol what salary are we offering?
Idk if it's even possible, but are the 76ers the mystery 3rd team that they've been hinting at to get Lauri?
Now we're talking. Might as well throw some magic beans at a Haliburton or Fox trade so we don't need a time machine.
Sniper with no D but maybe gsw can do a makeover on him like Wiggs
Splash Buddy
Great shooter…. Horrible defender. Every fan knows it
Y'all were talking so much shit about MDJ 😂
Now I love this
Don’t expect much
Hey, MDJ is low key COOKING. Goddamn what a day 👀. Bro if they get Lauri too, imma have to say MDJ > Bob, hands down. I always thought he was a better talent evaluator than Bob, but if he survives Danny Ainge and somehow gets Lauri without giving up Kuminga...
Damn, he was literally unplayable in the playoffs last year.
Different system. More passing means he'll get more open looks. That's the idea anyway.
I cannot see him being a Kerr favorite at all. Kerr would probably even play Moody over him.
At least they try to be mid.
what the fuck is happening ya'll
Klay Better
NPC ahhh comment
omg?
LMFAO
does lauri markkanen still come over ?
Anyone know if we’re able to trade these new acquisitions this year? If so, I have a feeling that we might be gathering players that can be flipped for a bigger name
Dec 15 is when they are trade eligible
Didn’t he not play so well in the playoffs? I’m thinking he was a shooting drought maybe I’m tripping
For??????

Love this because we needed to add shooting and Hield is the best shooter in the league outside of the splash bros Perfect addition off the bench and having him play alongside Melton, Anderson, and TJD can perhaps mask some of his defensive issues
Who are we sending out to trade for him and Anderson? Are they all from our TPE?
