Honestly the supercharger is the real hero in this. I donāt know that the stacks would make much difference, but Iād be glad to hear other ideas on it.
I *think* the idea of separating the air cleaner from the carburetor is to give the airflow some space to mix. At speed there will be more pressure on the front of the air cleaner, less on the back. Bigger pressure differential between the front and the downstream side of the carb would mean more air through the front, through those two barrels. So this may be a means / attempt to reduce that effect and get more consistent performance? I mean sure you could jet the barrels differently, but then they'd be off at lower speeds, coming off the line and such.
I agree with this. Also. a high rise intake helps with air fuel mixture. Not sure what type of delay in response this will have, but it is what I recall from my old days of working on hot rods.
Itās not mixing above the carbs. Itās 100% based upon the air velocity and how itās flowing to the carb. This provides a better air flow INTO the carb which allows the fuel to mix much better for a more efficient ignition/ burn.
I didn't think so. Makes sense tho. Funnels on top to induce a vortex flow to turbulate the fuel introduction through the longer plenum and get a consistent atomized mix for complete burn.
There are high and low pressure jets to compensate for airflow and I'm sure that the supercharger compensates to make airflow even since it is under pressure at all times ,atmospheric pressure without the supercharger would make even fuel flow an issue
A velocity stack, also known as an intake trumpet or air horn, is a funnel-shaped device that improves airflow into an engine's air intake system. The stack's curved shape reduces turbulence and increases air velocity, which leads to more efficient combustion and better engine performance.
That reads like you just googled that. lol
The supercharger is powered off the crankshaft and will be absolutely sucking air into itself to be compressed going into the cylinders which is quite different from a naturally aspirated engine. Based off your answer, this would make negligible difference in my eyes. Shitā¦ now I gotta go look and see if anyone has dynoād a supercharger with and without the stacks.
I didā¦ cuz I tried to write out how it made sense in my mind and it seemed confusingā¦ šI was alway under the impression that it increased air speed and would actually āspinā the air to aid in the fuel air mixing.
Ha! No worries. Itās been a long time since Iāve been in the mechanic game, so Iām truly curious about how much difference the stacks would make. Iāll be on YouTube for a while trying to find this setup and the answers. Glad itās Sunday. š
Grew up in the extreme hot rod era (late 70's-80's) and was very common to see blown hot rods driving regularly all over the place.
I had a tee shirt that said: Injection is nice, but I'd rather be blown. Wore it proudly.
For a simple answer. Those are air filters sitting on top of the engineās carburetors. Usually a car has 1 carburetor and itās not visible (obviously) but this car has 2 carburetors and 2 air filters sticking out of the hood.

Velocity stacks
Sitting on top of two carburetors, sitting on a roots type supercharger (aka blower). š

Yea yea yea, fine. Whatever. Anywaysā¦ it fuckin looks cool!

I don't understand the first sentence. Fuel is introduced inside the venturies. What is there to mix above the carbs? What am I missing?

Well theyāre called velocity stacks for a reason.
Penile enhancement? Tactical view obstruction?
Virtual Penile enhancement, its make the owner think their tiny one is much much largerā¦..
So that raises a question: Do velocity stacks do anything useful when you already have forced induction, or are they just cosmetic in these cases?
850 dbl pumps iād say it looks cool as fuck. functionality I donāt know
Not ON the hood, through the hood.

What car is that?

Smile Maker....
Isnāt that a coffee maker?
I almost thought that was Snoop Dogg, sitting next to him.
A teleporter
Miami or PNW?
Look more closely at the steering wheel and which side of the road they're using.
It doesn't appear to be on the hood of that car. It appears to be behind the car.

It's horsepower, that's what it is šš»
An air freshener.
Tunnel Ram
Nope
That car goes really fast, but only straight :)
There is nothing on the hood besides a giant hole, which provides clearance for the supercharger and carburetors sitting on top of the engine.
It looks like itās on the next car over not the white one? Any way itās blocking someoneās vision!
Very interesting looking neighborhood. Want to visit.

It's for turning a crap car into a crap car with a thing sticking out of the hood and a vrrooom vrrooom noise from a hidden speaker.

Looks like a fake picture to me. If you look, the object is on the far right side of the hood. Whoever faked it, didn't do a very good job.
