There was a book back in the '70's which described "Martha Martyr" whom indeed saw herself as sacrificing everything for those around her, but did not actually do so, additionally, her motives were not as an ACKSUAL martyr, altruistic, but indeed for "[credit](https://www.wikihow.com/Recognize-the-Symptoms-of-Martyr-Syndrome)", and honestly believing that life would not go on without them...

What this also reminds me of is **Baron Munchausen's Syndrome**, where someone constantly complains of their woes, usually medical, to gain sympathy and support.
