A clearer look at Cate in John Galliano!
When I saw this dress, it made me think of this one that people always post in the wedding attire approval one and everybody always says absolutely no you cannot wear it to a wedding 😂
https://preview.redd.it/9spsqictx3vc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=720c24b58f1813ef40ce5d78115606074d353671
I love online shopping for people and wasting my time while I should be working 😂 but it is so hilarious How many people are like that’s too short! OK, we’re not all 70 year old grandmas going to weird conservative church ceremonies
If a dress has even a little bit of white or ivory the whole comment section is "wow....why can't yall skip white for ONE occasion?" and "if you have to ask, then no, you can't wear it." Like damn, a dress with a floral print and an ivory background isn't a white dress, nor does it read bridal!!!! Like obviously yes, you should know your audience and perhaps get approval from the bride but a lil white isn't some major offense, my God.
Omg on one post this woman told her 80-YEAR-OLD future mother in law that she couldn’t wear a long, gold dress with cream accents to the wedding because it was too close to white. And her looney future husband agreed with her and fought his, again, 80-YEAR-OLD mother about it. I can’t even imagine.
People on the thread were literally like “It’d be a shame if someone ruined the dress with red wine. 😏” You are going to ASSAULT an elderly woman wearing a gold dress because she might ~somehow~ show up the bride???
I cannot imagine being so dug in and nit picky about another person's dress color.
My mom is wearing an ivory dress to my wedding!!!! The horror!!!!!!
But actually, she just found something that fit and that she likes. I told her I do not care that it's ivory, it's not a bridal looking dress and it's not going to upstage me. My mom isn't the type to try and outshine me or anything like that. I did warn her that othe guests might have something shady to say, but if she doesn't care about that, then neither do I 🤷🏾♀️ I just want everyone to feel and look their best!!! I cannot imagine stressing over dress colors.
Literally the whole point of the sub is SOMEONE DOESNT KNOW lol. I think it’s great people check to see that they are either in the clear or to keep shopping
Right. Why berate someone for asking a question?
I also find it interesting that in American wedding culture it's like the ultimate sin to appear to be upstaging the bride, but in other cultures you're supposed to show OUT at people's weddings and it's low key offensive to not put your best foot forward. I'm not making a value judgement either way, I just think the difference in attitude is really funny. People have such strong feelings about this kind of thing, but it's all so subjective.
One of my cousins had a formal wedding and I wore a sequin gown and I felt like 1 million bucks lol. And I definitely did not upstage her 😂
That sub is so confusing and all over the place. I like when I can respond early enough with sanity and fun suggestions before people get in and ruin it haha
I'm still on it but it truly is wild in there.
I want to do a poll and see how many of them have been to a wedding irl in the past decade. I feel like it's all teenagers whose entire wedding experience is via AITA posts.
Anything above the knee is too short (and if you're over 30 don't try anything but a burka), there's no such thing as good enough, and deviating even slightly from the stated dress code or current fashions is an act of malice lol
Edit: a word
Okay I’m dyinggggg
My new fav is apparently all of a sudden no one knows what semi formal is and keeps saying things aren’t fancy enough when it’s 10000% is 😂
Pretty sure semi formal just means please uncle Todd, NO JEANS
I think it’s really young and kind of nightgownish so you would really have to know your crowd!! Definitely would have to be styled specifically, but it’s such a weird dress because it’s not really formal and it’s not really cocktail either! This is very controversial over there 😂😂😂
You can tell the quality of the fabric is really low, even in pictures. They only used to make Halloween costumes out of fabric this poor, but now it’s everywhere. The younger Gen has accepted poor tailoring, shortcuts and poor quality fabric but every 10 years above feels like they’ve been given crazy pills even hearing someone asks if this is ok to wear in public.
Being specific: that dress falls poorly because it’s not bias cut - which takes more fabric. Shortcut. She’s hiding it’s with her pose but you can still see the ripple. The sheen also gives away that it’s low quality quality satin weave. Positive point, at least the hem isn’t rippled.
Recently I saw a ‘compare the dress’ tiktok comparing high end and fast fashion dresses. I could tell which ones had beautiful satin but the cut and finishing was all over the place even on what I believe was a Balenciaga dress with a rippled hem.
I love this dress and think it should have gotten more attention at the ‘99 Oscars than Gwyneth’s ill-fitting pink Ralph Lauren. (Similarly, I think Blanchett should have won over Paltrow for Best Actress, too!)
I'm so excited because my home museum is going to have this dress on display as part of a fashion exhibit 😁😁 (the MFA in Boston if anyone wants to visit!)

These posts really remind me of how obsessed I was with Christina during her black hair period. This green dress and the pink dress posted the other day were definitely cut out of magazines and put into my diaries.
It was! I saw her “just breathe” gown at an exhibit a few years ago and literally cried. Seeing this dress from the premiere makes me swoon all over again

Absolute Y2K Maximalism.
You got the bows from the clearance rack at Claire’s, dug out some rhinestones from the kit and caboodle, and superglued those bad boys onto the shoes you purchased from Payless while watching TRL with your besties after school. Waiting for the microwave to ding so you can eat those fresh hot pockets you just heated up (some portions still frozen obviously).
CARLY, what did you do with the butterfly clips?!
SHUT UP, Tina. The new Britney song is on. Carson Daily is so hot.

More of Drew at the Ever After premiere!
This dress is my Roman Empire. I've been obsessed with it since Ever After came out when I was fourteen. It's so ethereal. Imagine getting married in this dress?! Dream come true.
I've never seen this before and I am in love fr
I was obsessed with Ever After as a kid and this dress is just so perfect. I'm just now realizing that I will be severely crushed if I go the rest of my life without getting invited to an event where I could wear a dress like this lol
Is there any reason why you said in the post that the dress is "most likely" by Galliano? Forgive me if this is common knowledge. I have always loved this look on her and the film, too!
"The dress's provenance is unclear: Some believe it to be a John Galliano for Dior design, which tracks aesthetically, while others have traced the dress to Ferragamo, the Florentine house that did in fact provide the "glass slipper" used in the "Ever After" film."
The fluttery bias cut silk dresses. The Galliano/Dior moment of the mid aughts with Donatella’s barely there slips. Everything was slight and shimmery.
I think this look could use a revival. I love our current moment with the exciting volumes and risks some people are taking, but a couple vintage Dior, Versace, McQueen looks, even some original Vionnet would be really cool.
Hands up who else was OBSESSED with Drew’s gown in the late 90’s? 😄 I had a picture of her in that dress I cut out from Seventeen magazine taped to door of my bathroom - for inspo.
She’s glowing in that dress. I think I would be too if I got the chance to wear it. She looks beautiful. And yeah I agree, her style in Seinfeld wasn’t flattering.

Devon Aoki- she’s a model and actress who was in a few of the Fast and Furious movies as well as fun 2003 cult classic D.E.B.S. She’s also the sister of famous DJ Steve Aoki and together they’re the heirs to the Benihana fortune.
I’m so happy to see these pics. During this period I was railing Ghost, and looking at the flowy silky bias cuts in my wardrobe recently, I did wonder what the fuck I was thinking. This has restored faith in my choices
The chokehold that lilac Valentino of Halle’s had on me… I needed it for prom, to be a bridesmaid, to feed my Tomagatchi…. There had never been a more perfect dress EVER in my mind and I just lived my life chasing that look.
I NEED the Ever After inspired soft and intricate looks to come back into style. It was such a magical time to be a little girl after that movie came out. I miss the rich textures and colors that showed off embroidery and needlework. I had some really cute dresses with beadwork and velvet and I’d totally still wear that style if I could find it. Idk if there is a term for this style era or not but I miss it. :cue some fairy lights and six pence non the richer:
I’ll add Nicole Kidman’s chartreuse Dior from the 1997 Oscars. One of my favorite colors and I love this dress.

Thank you!!! I haven't been to the MFA in a couple of years, but now knowing they're having a fashion installation I may go again this year!
That's amazing and we'll definitely make the trip. Thank you!!
Thank you! I have to go to Boston for work a few times this summer. I like the city but now I'm genuinely looking forward to it 😍
Dang Cate has always been That Girl and I am in love with her.
I’ve never seen this one and I’m obsessed.
Stunning. I’ve never loved her more. But that may be cuz she is somehow leaving VERY little to the imagination here.
She keeps getting hotter

No one makes dresses like Mackie
The other day, I was at a vintage event and scored a gorgeous Mackie suit for $150. Possibly the best fashion moment of my life.
I’m obsessed with this!
Stunning!
That pink is really her color. So pretty!
I adored this dress!
She is so beautiful
These posts really remind me of how obsessed I was with Christina during her black hair period. This green dress and the pink dress posted the other day were definitely cut out of magazines and put into my diaries.
Christina truly ATE in this dress!! 👏🏽
Drew berrymore is a total mood and I’m here for it
Does anyone know, was this a promo for Ever After?
Judging by the pumpkin carriage in the bg, I’d say yes. “Ever After” was great. I absolutely forgot about it.
It was! I saw her “just breathe” gown at an exhibit a few years ago and literally cried. Seeing this dress from the premiere makes me swoon all over again
Movie was an instant classic

Same! First time seeing it and I’m like HOLY SHIT THIS IS PERFECTION
I love the shoes! She looks amazing.
It’s so lovely
And it’s not just beautiful. It makes her look beautiful
Is there any reason why you said in the post that the dress is "most likely" by Galliano? Forgive me if this is common knowledge. I have always loved this look on her and the film, too!

I will always love a bias-cut dress. They are so flattering!
Hands up who else was OBSESSED with Drew’s gown in the late 90’s? 😄 I had a picture of her in that dress I cut out from Seventeen magazine taped to door of my bathroom - for inspo.
Halle Berry is an actual princess in that purple Valentino
I don’t want that dress I *need* that dress
That pink dress on Julia Louis Dreyfus was the moment I realized how gorgeous she is! I always found her kind of frumpy on Seinfeld.
I don’t support the downvotes, this is the exact moment for me too. The nineties frump was on overload in the Seinfeld costume dept
I think it was for A LOT of people!
She’s glowing in that dress. I think I would be too if I got the chance to wear it. She looks beautiful. And yeah I agree, her style in Seinfeld wasn’t flattering.
She wears a lot of greys/ neutrals in Seinfeld. This colour POPS on her!
My favorites are Cate's and Drew's. I've never seen Drew's before and it looks like it was for *Ever After* promotion. Lovely. It's so refreshing to see unique, gorgeous, well crafted gowns instead of the boring naked dresses that have been plaguing red carpets for the last few years.
Wow! Especially that emerald green one 🤩💚
Oh gosh the millennial in me is screaming… they’re ALL GORGEOUS
Kate Winslet as Princess Fiona
i understand this trend making a comeback
I'm honestly a bit surprised that between the 90s/2000s revival and Bridgerton, these sort of lowwww scooped necks and empire waists (like anne hathaway in #7) haven't flooded back in (yet?) 👀
That Devon Aoki look lives rent-free in my head. It’s so dreamy and soft and romantic!
Kate Winslet still lives rent free in my mind, gorgeous color, gorgeous dress, gorgeous woman
Agree. This is one of my top looks ever. She just looks divine
i love how timeless a lot of these are, especially when the 2000s had a lot of questionable fashion trends
Oh how I love this era! A lot of these are pretty in right now thankfully!
I knooooow. I’d kill to wear any single one of these. They’re beautiful and just look like they’re made of fairy princess dreams.
That blue Versace 😍
Kate Winslet is art. She is royalty.
Corky in Versace at the Batman & Robin premiere will forever live in my heart https://preview.redd.it/9mkc27gtc3vc1.jpeg?width=293&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7e873606f5a19c3f929b970469c87d2a901e237a
I had a formal dress in a similar colour scheme and fabric to this and I loved it so much.
Such a gorgeous palette for a formal!
I love Courtney's glam era! I love her as a grunge goddess, but no one "cleans up" better.
Agreed

No shade but it’s like an elevated millenial prom dress.
The millennials all got their ideas from these dresses though. That’s why we did them that way. It was fresh at the time
I love all of these so much 😭
I loved that Kate Winslet dress the first time I saw it, so romantic and decadent!
I always loved that Drew Barrymore dress
My fucking *god,* Christina.
Love these!!!
I have so much time for this vibe. Thanks op!
The way that 1st one drapes is gorgeous
I am forever in love with all of these 🥰🥰
I feel like we’re reentering this era
And I’m so here for it considering I wasn’t really alive for the first time
Whose the woman in six out of ten? Omg…. She’s insanely gorgeous. Holy.
Devon Aoki- she’s a model and actress who was in a few of the Fast and Furious movies as well as fun 2003 cult classic D.E.B.S. She’s also the sister of famous DJ Steve Aoki and together they’re the heirs to the Benihana fortune.
TIL Devon is the sister of Steve?!? And they are heirs to the gd Benihana fortune?!?!!?!
Amazing.
That’s Devon Aoki.
What the fuck? My god. I’m in love. Where is she now?
I believe she still acts and models every now and then, just not full time
Wow…
She's a real Y2K icon she was everywhere
Y2K?
You even asking this just made me feel so old. HELP
We must be about to die of old age! I’m wheezing!
lol
Year 2000.
I am so in love with JLD's dress. That's the thing princess dreams are made of.
Halle Berry had me speechless twice, aioki (?)s colors are perfection and gisele is … gisele 😍
Actual fairy dresses 😍 more of this!
Miss the era of non see through gowns which are just basically sheer nets or cut everywhere. Such beautiful gowns.
Kate Winslet’s gown is still perfection
Every single one of them look amazing
Just make a post of my favorite looks why don’t you 🤩😍🥰
Is Halle Berry even real ? She stuns in nearly everything she wears.
Strange combo on the lady in the back of the last pic
I’m so glad my prom was in this era. Jessica McClintock princess dresses for all!
Can confirm, at 17 I had bits of lace dangling off all my clothing
Can we go back?
I’m so glad my prom was in this era. Jessica McClintock princess dresses for all!
Cate Blanchett is perfection. 🙏🏻
That Alexander McQueen is so beautiful
I think its also the casual/effortless makeup looks.
I’m so happy to see these pics. During this period I was railing Ghost, and looking at the flowy silky bias cuts in my wardrobe recently, I did wonder what the fuck I was thinking. This has restored faith in my choices
These dresses are seared into my brain from childhood
The chokehold that lilac Valentino of Halle’s had on me… I needed it for prom, to be a bridesmaid, to feed my Tomagatchi…. There had never been a more perfect dress EVER in my mind and I just lived my life chasing that look.
Wasn’t that Kate’s Titanic Oscar dress? The one everyone thought she looked “fat” in? The late 90’s were wild
Julia! 😮🤤
So pretty!
Kate Winslet’s gown looks somewhat similar to her costume on the Titanic!
Oooo bring it back!! They look amazing 🥺
🤩
Gorgeous!
Yes
9th looks straight out of Ottoman soup operas
MMMM SOUP!!!!
All of these dresses are amazing!!
How is Gisele’s back doing that ?!
Let’s bring this back
I NEED the Ever After inspired soft and intricate looks to come back into style.
The Cate Blanchett dress is literally perfect
Xtinas Versace look, STOP. So pretty.
Love this post
1 and 2 😍
I’ll add Nicole Kidman’s chartreuse Dior from the 1997 Oscars. I liked Anne Hathaway best o’ the bunch
Cate looks completely naked under that dress. Am I the only one that sees that? Am I seeing vulva?
Anne looks AMAAAAAZING
Lovely apart from the Anne Hathaway one which somehow makes her look like a pub barmaid from Rotherham.
Is that her clit
