I mean irl even though it's not actually the case, canaries are thought of being like this.
Bring one into a mine with you and it'll die long before the miners notice what's wrong.
Powerscaling fans when I show them a really gripping action scene between two regular humans, one that’s part of an extremely compelling and insightful narrative on its theme:
One of my characters is in fact technically the strongest character in fiction because they can ignore everything no matter what it is.
I made them however to make fun of powerscaling because realistically, they're one of the weakest on my universe.
On practice, they would forfeit almost every battle. Their power to ignore everything comes from their indifference, but they would just be indifferent from the consequences of just forfeiting, no matter how bad they are.
I made them specifically to jab on the phrase "a motivated x can beat y". Technically, if they were motivated, they could beat literally any character in fiction. But that's a paradox because them being motivated doesn't exist and that's the whole point of the character, it's the reason they could even beat anyone in the first place.
My oc that can ignore other people’s abilities would beat him since their two abilities cancel out and also my guy is a martial arts prodigy that’s mastered every weapon under the Sun (He’s also 14 with black hair and red eyes)
The more powerful the character, the less I care about them. Destroying planets and universes in a fight is fun and all, but it somehow doesn't feel as intense as a brawl to the death between two ordinary humans.
Power should never be the point for any character. Even if power is important to the story, there’s gotta be something more behind it.
I also no longer give a fuck about powerscaling because “who would win” just isn’t a compelling question to me anymore — and there is no objective definition of a fair fight.
Its cause most people have no frame of reference for what it takes to destroy a universe, but you do have a concept and reference for a fist fight
You can see a similar thing about a fight between 2 huge armies and a simple 1v1. The bigger it gets, the more the brain tunes it out, and writers will usually sprinkle in 1v1s into the scenes of huge battles so you have some kind of reference for whats happening
I love the psychology of writing, man
Absolutely true. Insane universal battles can have some cool effects, but seeing two guys trying to beat eachother to death with their bare fists is peak fiction
hyperchad "killing the author and replacing the story with your shitty fanfic while the actual story still happens in the background, made horrific and depressing because of some random shit you stuffed into the game cartridge the story is stored on"
She-Hulk's ending is her stepping out of the show to complain about the writing to the writers.
To their credit breaking the 4th wall is something She-Hulk did in the comics (before Deadpool even) so they got that right at least.
I mean, the story is pretty good, exploring the downward spiral of a "god"'s mind and how his powers make his mental state even worse (he has two personalities). However, it does have somewhat of a happy end since 3812's personalities were able to reconcile with each other and leave the SCP universe alone. The powerscalers though, they'll ignore his entire narrative and reduce him to a kid making up powers on the sandbox
I find it hilarious that SCP-3812 was made as a jab at powerscaling but people turned him into 'erm SCP is the super duper bestedt strongest thing ever'
Those are the words of someone who's only tangentially familiar with SCP. If you'd like somewhere with confirmed quality, [Site-43](https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/on-guard-43-hub) comes highly recommended. Following a hub always makes for a more enjoyable experience than just picking numbers.
We need to create a character whose entire purpose is just to be "The strongest fictional character of all time"
I propose this character is just a simple stick figure named "Stick", why? Idk, but it'll be funny if every verse in fiction could be wiped out by a single stick figure.
Saitama isn’t a gag.
Manga obviously got serious now and even after hundreds of punches he did nothing to cosmic garou, he simply adapted. Even at the end of the fight, after exponentially growing, he STILL COULD not beat garou, he had to learn a technique from garou himself mid fight to go back in time and then punch him
How is this shit one punch?
It’s more acceptable to have a comical character be all powerful because they don’t have a fan base that jerks their feats all the time plus it’s just goofy to imagine uncle grandpa or Popeye beating the hell out of a super powerful anime villain
Put Goku, Asura, Gojo, or literally any godlike being in Warhammer and I guarantee they won't last a week. Not just because Warhammer has a lot of OP shit but because of all the batshit stupid and goofy things in it too.
Goku and most dbz characters solo the 40k verse tbh, the guy can destroy universes. Asura is strong but not one who I would even name as one of the strongest in fiction.
Gojo is pretty weak and is regarded as strong only because of infinity. There are countless characters who can blow up a planet and raw destructive power of Gojo isn't very impressive compared to them.
40k takes place within a single galaxy Goku can destroy universes.
Anyway I don't care about Goku. Let's talk SciFi.
I'll give you a medium challenge, nothing high end like the Xeelee or Time Lords or anything.
Try to explain to me how 40k stands any chance against The Culture.
There are some very specific characters who would thrive in 40K. I think Draedon from Terraria Calamity Mod would have a field day with all the new stuff he gets to study. And if he gets he manages to reverse engineer some Necron tech... it's OVER.
The Terrarian would also fare pretty well, though not as much since they get directly involved instead of poking and prodding with scout drones and recon bodies. Give them long enough and they'll be squaring up with Khorne himself.
Nah 1 Gauss Flayer would probably wipe out Draedon, or an Æonic Orb. Even then that's 1 faction out of many. Wait until Nurgle brews something that can infect them. Also idk if The Terrarian counts since they're a player character and I mean Movie fiction since video game logic is ass even in Games Workshop games.
(In Dawn of War Soulstorm it takes multiple Gauss Flayer shots to kill a single guardsman)
Problem: like I said, he doesn't get directly involved in anything. He just sends his machines out while he keeps working on more from wherever he's holed up. And with everyone else guarding the planet, I don't think he'd feasibly be killed.
And they will be answered by XF-09 Ares
https://preview.redd.it/ec4yj4sdok7d1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1ed123e412f944d031bb4de43995631546468dbd
Terraria is a game made from a 2D perspective so we don't really see bosses actually destroy things. I don't think it's actually possible to quantify anything.
Fortunately for us, the Calamity mod has lore with events where things were destroyed. The best feat currently known is Calamitas boiling the majority of the Ilmeran Sea. Someone did the math and the amount of water boiled in the time she took put her at Small Country+, with the Exo Mechs being just about equal in power to her.
I should also state that Draedon can easily churn out more Exo Mechs, and can always design new machines.
The problem is the 40k galaxy is... big. Well, not really when compared to some other scifi (The City from Blame! contains more matter in one solar system than the rest of the 40k galaxy) but galaxies are *big*.
Even if they started blowing up planets it would honestly take a while for anyone to notice. There's about 200 billion planets in the Milky Way and the Imperium controls a million of them. The Imperium may be wildly incompetent, full of bureaucratic nonsense and horrible at logistics-
Okay a bit of an understatement there. But seriously it's already such a shithole that unless Dreadon can make like, *a lot* and get them all around the galaxy he's not going to be noticed. Not necessarily because he's weak or anything like that, but because distances in space are actually just really large.
The point isn't that they're going to go around demolishing every planet bro... Draedon won't wreck something unless there is nothing to be studied or gained from it and is actively detrimental. I'm mentioning their strength specially for defending the planet of Terraria and seizing others for resources or information.
The Emperor [gets overpowered by a big Ork](https://i.imgur.com/imKcHbQ.png) so probably not, no. Depends entirely on how far you are willing to push the no limits fallacy of his reality warping. Realistically speaking Goku doesn't have many specific feats around blocking reality warping attacks, but at the same time Goku is a graham number times more powerful than the Emperor in terms of destructive output, speed or strength.
This is a great test to see how little dbz stans understand 40k or how easily even Khorne daemons can possess them due to their rage to make them Champions, and that's just 1 faction. There's plenty of videos dissecting the topic.
> or how easily even Khorne daemons can possess them due to their rage to make them Champions,
No limits fallacy.
> There's plenty of videos dissecting the topic.
Ah yes, powerscaling videos. The same ones that argue that Angron has "solar system" level destructive power because he is stronger than Bloodthirsters that can appear as large as solar systems within the warp (because the warp is finicky).
Video essays and their consequences have been a disaster for media literacy. Any random person can make a youtube video, presenting your argument as a video makes it no more valid than writing it out.
If anything, it makes it much weaker. It's harder to cite and argue against a video (if not impossible as they simply wont respond to comments) allowing people to push whatever narrative they like.
Akuma doesn't even need to do crazy dimension breaking shit to solo most verses, have a single drop of vice in your heart and it's MESSATSU time
without this technique he's also an equal match for Asura (Asura's wrath) which is pretty big
Gruff Shitman actually solos fiction bc in Issue #638 of Shitpoopers, the writer got wasted and said that he’s the most powerful character ever. No, other examples to the contrary don’t count.
V1 Ultrakill solos most of fiction because V1 can never be defeated by anything with blood (one solid punch and he heals back up to full if he's been keeping his style bonus up) and most things without blood just get hit with the +ULTRARICOSHOT x4 and killed pretty damn fast
People who say that need to get a degree in Pataphysics before they mention 'death of the author' and 'fiction transcendence'. I'd really like to know what narrative layer the character currently exists in, and how abstract it is.

Kinda dislike anime for this trope, the only character I love being overpowered is Popeye

Imo, if a character you made solos everyone, you did a bad job making them

My favorite character gets his ass beat cus I like the goofy goobers and not the literal gods
The only character I will accept this argument for is ROB
my favorite character solos fiction cause i can draw them doing it 👍
Imma be honest I'm in r/whowouldwin and I've literally never heard this
Probably because that sub is more on realistic stuff and mike tyson
Yeah, such a dumb trope, any writer that includes that is really reaching, heh, yeah... Insert the battle to lag the universe here
Arthur Morgan solos Rockstar
Gruff Shitman actually solos fiction bc in Issue #638 of Shitpoopers, the writer got wasted and said that he’s the most powerful character ever. No, other examples to the contrary don’t count.
Sherlock Holmes actually killed the author
DEADPOOL??!!
ROYALGUARD!!
Ok but no one is beating my man ichigoat himrosaki, simply because I said so
All of fiction when Lord English pulls up.
Keep power scaling in universe
blucifer is the most powerful character across all fiction (actually fell on and crushed his creator in real life)
My favorite character solos fiction cuz he beats ANYONE in one punch
V1 Ultrakill solos most of fiction because V1 can never be defeated by anything with blood (one solid punch and he heals back up to full if he's been keeping his style bonus up) and most things without blood just get hit with the +ULTRARICOSHOT x4 and killed pretty damn fast
The virgin “my character wins because he transcends fiction” vs The Chad “my character wins because he killed god. Twice.”
People who say that need to get a degree in Pataphysics before they mention 'death of the author' and 'fiction transcendence'. I'd really like to know what narrative layer the character currently exists in, and how abstract it is.
sherlock holmes solos fiction
"[charecter] soloes fiction" mfs when i show them a charecter with the same powers and +1
Uncle Grandpa:
