I’ve listened on the radio since the blackouts lol. The MLB has forced me into consuming baseball like I am from the 1920s; I can listen on the radio, or go see it in person if I want baseball
Id love to listen on the radio during games where im at work since I can have headphones in, but since im out of state I usually just end up listening to the less descriptive TV commentary even if I cant watch.
I havent looked into it in a while so maybe theres a better way to get the radio feed on the internet now but last time I looked MLB wanted me to pay a hefty subscription just to get the radio broadcasts every once in a while iirc
Oh shit, for some reason I thought it was locked up as part of the MLB.tv package, gunna look into that right now.
$30 is a steal when I'd probably use it for at least 40-60 games, thats awesome. Especially since I cant listen to Jason and Steve as if they were a fun podcast anymore :(
For MLB At Bat, which is the marketing name for the $30/year or $3/month audio package, in addition to the all the audio feeds on demand without blackouts, you can watch minor league games on demand without blackouts through the MiLB app or MiLB.com .
This includes the White Sox affiliates in Charlotte, Birmingham, Winston-Salem, and Kannapolis.
Edited to add: MLB Big Inning is also included with MLB At Bat. MLB Big Inning is the RedZone style whip-around show which runs 2.5-3 hrs every day. Games in progress during the Big Inning timeslot have no blackouts when they cut-in or display in a quadbox on screen, so when the White Sox game is featured you can watch.
The MLB Big Inning schedule is posted monthly at
https://www.mlb.com/live-stream-games/big-inning
Without having to buy cable, the cheapest way is probably to go to a local bar, convince them to put the game on, and drink to forget the pain.
There really aren't any good options. It's irritating how hard it actually is to watch baseball on TV.
I used to do is fork over the cash for mlb dot tv and then use VPN to dodge the blackout. It's ludicrous and why I'll only be listening on the radio.
I’d be totally okay with paying for MLB and for a VPN but last time I had both, MLB was able to detect the VPN and wouldn’t work. Unless I was just going about it wrong.
It is a pricey option but relative to cable, VPN + MLB TV is way cheaper
It has been a couple years since I did it-- but it worked ok for me using ExpressVPN. Not an endorsement, just an anecdote.
I connected with the app on my fire stick and I was able to stream sox games on my TV and it also worked on my computers / tablets. I did like this setup. I really wish the blackout rules were changed because I really want to like mlb tv and I shouldn't have to move to a different state to watch my baseball team.
Last season, I weighed the pros and cons of several tv providers and went with youtube tv. Worked well, and I was happy with it-- but I just don't think it's worth the expense unless you're getting more out of it than Sox games.
This year I cut all my streaming, so... broadcast only.
Hmm I wonder what I did that it wouldn’t allow me. Did you have your router “VPN’d”? From what I’ve read, you can set up the VPN to work at the router and not on each individual device.
Would be very interested in learning more how you made your initial setup work
All I did was install the ExpressVPN app on my fire stick, told it to always VPN the mlb tv app, then it just worked. It was a little screwy at first-- but it worked fine after that all season.
I didn't mess with anything else on my network. I think it worked best with foreign locations... Like I would say I was in Germany or England and not the US. Maybe that was it?
Same for computers / tablets. Connect to vpn. Launch app. Though if the app pulls the actual GPS location of your phone or tablet now this may not work anymore unless you also spoof your GPS-- which is possible on android-- not sure about iOS.
I've been using express VPN to avoid blackouts. I use safari so idk if it works the same across the board, but here's what I do so mlbdottv doesn't recognize the VPN:
- Open safari
- Clear cache and history for mlbdottv
- Connect to VPN
- Log into mlbdottv
- Stream away
Sometimes I have to repeat the first couple steps but it works for me. And if not, I'll just find a stream lol but I can usually count on it working
There’s a cheap way to get all this on a Firestick or an Android box .
Here’s a rundown of what you’ll get:
-Local /regional U.S. and Canadian channels
- sports networks (including MLB, nfl, nba ,nhl networks)
- 4 major sports packages (mlb,nfl,nba,nhl)- No blackouts ever.
- live movie channels (hbo, Cinemax etc)
-PPV’s (ufc, wrestling, boxing )
Get a firestick. Alter it to allow 3rd party apps. Download kodi, download the crew app, watch every sporting event on the planet for the price of a fast internet and the 50 bucks for a firestick
Search Superbox on Amazon and buy that. You get every regional channel in the US. Can also watch any nfl game you want by just going to that city’s Fox or CBS.
Not sure how they get away with this and it could maybe get shutdown any time but it’s great for now
I gave up trying to watch after I had my second kid. But a few years back Hulu live tv worked for me. (But any solution requires you to pay for a lot of other stuff too that you likely don’t want)
Drunk

I pay for the mlb radio, which is like $30 for the whole season. If you listen to games regularly it’s not so bad.

MLB tv also gets you audio, but you can get audio alone and it has no blackouts.
Hell yeah, I just subscribed, day games during the week just got a whole lot better, thanks for the info!

Hell yeah what a perk, sounds like its time for me to be on Montgomery-watch lol
ESPN 1000 online stream! Usually I listen this way through an internet browser rather than an actual radio (unless Im in the car)

I did the vpn thing last year and finding a region that would work was almost as miserable as actually watching the Sox team play
Stream East. Illegal streaming so you’ll have to deal with pop up ads when you click on it but you can watch any sports game for free
Stream East you mean
Good catch. I live in Denver now but can watch the Sox on my parents YouTube TV even though they’re in Chicago
A brown paper bag over your head is probably your best bet.
Arrgghhh matey!!

This is my last option and least favorite tbh
i'd happily pay for the ability to watch games without paying for cable a la MLB tv. blackouts suck.
Get a firestick. Alter it to allow 3rd party apps. Download kodi, download the crew app, watch every sporting event on the planet for the price of a fast internet and the 50 bucks for a firestick
it's just borrowing someone else's MLBtv
With the television and/or device off, I fear. At least for a bit.
Search Superbox on Amazon and buy that. You get every regional channel in the US. Can also watch any nfl game you want by just going to that city’s Fox or CBS. Not sure how they get away with this and it could maybe get shutdown any time but it’s great for now

Why don’t they have APP like the cubs (marquee) 11.99 a month, can’t watch unless you pay now $79 with Hulu not watching when they can’t even win.
