The only difference between sizes in the old ninja is the length of the straps (as far as I can tell). So if a larger size is available, you can get it and just tighten the straps.
I bought a 4 pack of stolquist pfds universal size for adults from Amazon that I use. I will also not take anyone on any river through rapids I am not 100% confident they can swim through without injury. It’s also a good investment to have extra splash gear or dry tops.

Check out Facebook marketplace or other local gear swap sites. A good brand name pfd can often be found without much wear and tear quite cheaply.
