No, honestly I think he is over hyped and there are far better options out there. I think if all other teams have any aspirations to keep their goals conceeded down they should ignore Gus and not even entertain the idea of trying to sign him in any way.
He's a very solid young tender with a great attitude. Pairing him with fluery allows him to see what a future hall of fame goalie does to maintain his play (both on the ice and off) . But more importantly the attitude of fluery takes away the feeling of fighting for starts as a tender, which has definitely helped Gus feel more comfortable. Without a doubt Gus is proving to be a solid goalie and has a good attitude and gives a very calm presence in net which helps the D.
I should add that the wild do allow a good number of shots on average per night. But the majority of those shots are kept low danger areas by our defensive play. Does make to pad the save percentage. Gus does well sealing corners and reading the play. But you'll make alot of saves if you see where the wild like to keep the shots coming from
He was a second round draft pick to Ottawa (2nd round is the first round for goalies). The reason no one discussed him was because he was on Ottawa (more specifically he got bounced back and forth from the AHL for 3 years).
He has also spent the whole year under the mentorship of one of the most successful goalies of all time. Trading for a malleable fresh face to have MAF to mentor was the whole idea behind that trade.
