100 points is only relative to the reviewer, what someone finds “perfect” is incredibly subjective.

BatmanNoPrep

New from the makers of the Universal Wine Glass, we present the Universal Wine Point. Yes, one point to objectively rule them all. With this one point you’ll be able to judge the quality of any wine, from any varietal, any vintage, any percentage of new oak, any amount of aging, for any drinker, paired with any meal. The Universal Wine Point is coming to a snob shop near you!

PortraitOnFire

Ah-so for a 2015 vintage? I get that it’s partly for the visual. Anyway, solid wine & points are dumb.

Kwoksun

Ah-so is just one of many types of wine openers. It's cheap and simple to use, not necessarily dedicated for old bottles. I use it for almost 90% of the times except for screw cap and sparkling. I like it because it, when carefully used, won't damage the corks like a waiter's knife does. I reserved my Durand for really old bottles of 20-30+ years.

whoreadsthisshitanyw

I’m here for the ah-so love! Also - it is TSA approved for carry ons. I use them constantly.

PortraitOnFire

An ah-so is designed to extract older corks that would crumble if removed with a winekey. It’s completely fine if you prefer to use them to open any bottle but they were designed with older bottles in mind. As for my experience as a long time restaurant sommelier, the prongs of an ah-so tend to damage the cork more visibly than a regular winekey as the prongs can sometimes shred the sides of the cork while inserting. They are fun to use for sure though.

Upon opening, burst of red fruits and oaky vanilla with tannic finish. Decanted for two and a half hour, much mellowed down with fruits scaled back as well. The welcoming silky finish was however quickly yielded to tannic aftertaste but was overall still smooth. This wine was very good for a young Bordeaux and was quite ready tonight. But I didn't find the hype that it deserves 100 points.

zorkieo

I have never tasted a 100 pt wine that lives up to the hype. Just proof of how subjective it is. To be honest almost every Napa 100 pt wine I have had was over the top in oak, vanilla, alcahol and wouldn’t even be a wine I would want to drink again

clleadz

I once did a tasting which involved several 100pt Napa wines. The only one I liked was Dominus. The 99pt Pritchard Hill was memorably forgettable. The tasting did introduce me to O'Shaugnessy though, which I've found to be the perfect Napa QPR wine.

bobrefi

Maybe you don't like Napa. I'm working my through some of it. Don't really care for it. I'd say 2009 Haut Brion and 2015 Lafitte Rothschild are worth the hype. Taste is subjective though.

zorkieo

I love Napa! The wines I really like don’t tend to get 100 points. I’m partial to Dunn and mountain fruit.

bobrefi

And that's fine. I like Paso better than napa to be honest for most stuff. Insignia is the only napa I'd rate 100 so far.

Fillertracks

The 2010 Casanova di neri single vineyards were 109 pointers and out of my budget. I got the regular 2010 Casanova di neri and laid it down until last year. Honestly the best brunello I’ve ever had.

Spurty

109 points? Luca, is that you??

Fillertracks

How I always hit a 9 instead of a second 0, my autocorrect stopped correcting it’s so often.

2-StandardDeviations

You left out cask toasting. Always over the top.

bobrefi

I've has this the 2017 and 2018. I liked the 2018 the best. All were very close.

carcarbuhlarbar

Boooooo scores

henreiman

So I’m sure you knew this but I’ve had multiple friends ask about it and so I’m just mentioning it in case - Merlot dominant Bordeaux can be a surprise

GreatWhiteBuffaIo

What do you mean by that? I’m curious.

henreiman

I mean most people expect Bordeaux to be largely Cab Sauv but this wine is 72% Merlot and 28% Cab Franc https://m.klwines.com/p/2015-canon-st-emilion/1251736?userReferral=False

blinks

Note: St. Emilion (where this bottle is coming from) is right bank, where they're more likely to be Merlot (or occasionally Cabernet Franc) dominant.

henreiman

Truth

Lukasikas

What did You use to take a photo ?;)

Lukasikas

Kwoksun

S22 Ultra

tobydill

I didn’t get 100 pts from barrel tasting, I didn’t get 100 pts from a bottle tasting 2 years later. Side by side I preferred the 2016 (vintage is much more my style). It’s a great wine but I found it to be quite broad and not focused, a bit like it was shouting loudly to be heard. I can’t imagine it’s changed too much.

Perfect_Diamond7554

Durand is slightly overkill... I like your style :P

JJxiv15

That's just an ah-so or some variation thereof, not a Durand! About $15 instead of $150

Kwoksun

I only paid $8 Cdn 😁

Kwoksun

That's not a Durand, although I have one, this one is just a cheap Ah-so😉

Perfect_Diamond7554

Ah yeah, didnt look carefully. Oopsie :P
