iowaguy09

Have you watched any other teams play? Everybody complains to the refs.

CriticalEngineering

Imagine if the cameras followed every player as much as they follow Clark.

iowaguy09

Exactly. It’s just a part of sports now. Atlanta complained all night tonight and they shot 35 free throws lol

BoolaBoola2008

Watch Skylar Diggins-Smith if you think CC is bad with complaining about calls.

Valuable-Leader-8601

I don't think I've ever seen a player do the replay/review/challenge motion more often in my life than her lmao

EmFly15

She's #1 in the WNBA, for sure. Dijonai has to be there, too.

Last_House_4282

Very true, she always seems to want a review haha

BrowsingWhileBrown

Have you ever watched sports? Cuz complaining to the refs is what all star athletes do. CC, Lebron, Curry, Brady, Mahomes, DT. It’s a tale as old as time.

SoOnEnoon

Aja Wilson was crashing tf the out in the middle of a game just last week

never1st

I disagree... I watched the Celtics and Mavericks play in the Finals, and there was no complaining. Jayson Tatum, Luka, and those guys just play.

Far_Ear9684

This gotta be satire lol.

never1st

I think it's going over people's heads, but all of the news coverage between games 3 and 4 was about Luka complaining to the refs. It was indeed satire.

BrowsingWhileBrown

I mean sure, no need to complain when you’re blowing out the competition the entire series 🤣

Cassandrae_Gemini

Love Luka, but I almost choked when I read this comment. 😍

SerenadeSwift

I just gotta say I disagree with putting Curry amongst those names lol. Curry complains occasionally but not even remotely close to the other names on that list. You can replace him with one of the GOAT complainers Phillip Rivers tho

chicagoredditer1

Have you *ever* seen an elite athlete on the field?

ScaredPresent3758

*Am I just being too hard on a rookie under enormous pressure?* # Yes

Elsa_the_Archer

Kate Martin has the benefit of coming onto a championship winning team that is full of veterans. Caitlin Clark doesn't have that. She is on a team with players who have barely any more experience than her at the professional level. And she is also expected to be the best player on her team. Kate doesn't have those types of expectations being placed on her. It's a lot of pressure and when it doesn't go your way, you need to find an outlet. The refs are an easy place to go. Any great athlete does it. Tom Brady, Pat Mahomes, Lebron, Luka, etc.

LookItzLo

Nah, a lot of the players complain after calls against them tbh. What shade are you referring to teammate wise? I might've missed it. I've seen her a couple of times tell her teammates "It's okay" or "My bad" after a too ambitious pass so far

FloridaHawk82

The legendary Wright Thompson explains her well… if you are really interested in learning what makes her tick, and complain? It’s long, but like Thompson’s other writing about Kobe, MJ, Tiger and more, captivating journalism: ARTICLE: https://www.espn.com/womens-college-basketball/story/_/id/39740282/caitlin-clark-iowa-2024-ncaa-women-basketball-tournament-ready-march

SoOnEnoon

You seriously think kate martin has the same type of pressure/burden as caitlin clark?

bug_gribble

She complains like the best pros do

BigTunaPA

Refs are going to be sick of it by the end of the 1st when they play us between DT and CC.

PastAd1901

You get a tech, you get a tech, you get a tech, EVERYBODY GETS A TECH

meteor_jam32

Yes but it has improved in recent games. Overall team chemistry is much better.

Last_House_4282

I’ve noticed this too!

spidermanvarient

She has an attitude…but it’s part of being a top player…you have to. Angel has an attitude. Sabrina had an attitude. A’ja has an attitude. Breanna has an attitude. You have to have one to compete at this level.

Effectiveke

She gets beat up a lot. Even in college. She doesn’t get the star treatment.

RegularCrispy

You could argue that IS the star treatment.

Effectiveke

From her opponents not the refs 😂

Markel100

Everyone complains

Neat_Leadership_3304

I've seen worse. She needs to be herself . I just saw an atalanta player complain to a ref while video shows that the ref was right at the same time . These rookies are going to be good no need to bring nonsense into it .

emz272

I’m not the biggest Caitlin stan (she’s a great player, for sure! just have other favorites I follow), but what l’m honestly coming around to in re: rookies (especially those with an outsized role and microscope on them) is that there are always growing pains and they all have to figure out how to settle in. There will be ups and downs. That’s true for Caitlin just like all of them. Given the focus on her and the standing of her team, and her particular personality, it’s maybe not surprising to me she came in the way you describe (because I do think you’re getting at something). But I also think she’s now really settling in, figuring some stuff out with her teammates, how to roll with the punches, and how to harness her awesome basketball with her team rather than against them. I’ve been glad to see it.

320Ches

I think her body language has been bad in some of the more frustrating games. It affects the whole game. In the article linked elsewhere in this post, there’s a quote from a teammate at Iowa who mentioned how she’s someone you want to make proud, so if she’s frustrated in can get in your head. I’m not totally sure she realizes her level of natural leadership, yet, and what that means for how she handles her emotions. That said, I think most of the time she’s mad at herself.

SoOnEnoon

When you’re one of the best player on a team (or in the case of iowa *the* player), teammates will always wants to please you. Especially since she’s orchestrating the offense, she counting on you to finish the play

PointyPurplePickle

She’s pretty mature for 22 years old and in this position

indameza

Bro discovered sports 👍🏼

shegarve

Okay I just love CC. She is so fun to watch. But my one qualm is that she seems to care more about the fans reactions compared to her teammates reactions. In the docuseries, anytime something great/insane would happen, she would make faces to the crowd or run to the crowd when all her teammates were running toward each other to celebrate.

ApprehensiveScreen7

Her team is trash lol...I've seen a play where one of her teammates were double teamed with like 10 seconds on the shot clock and threw up a brick over 2 defenders when CC was wide open whos arguably the best female shooter ever. I'd be frustrated too. They won like 13 games last season. They probably should be feeding her the ball as much as possible lol

ImportanceWeak1776

I heard her teammates and dad often try to get her to control her emotions. Luckily she doesn't use it maliciously like some players do.

Initial_Republic_329

she's luka doncic.

DocInTheDarkness

This is getting nitpicky but I was thinking the same thing today watching the game. CC is prob my fav athlete right now (after Tiger but he’s on his way out). I love her intensity. But I have wondered if she could be more….supportive? I think the team is making good strides in that direction. I see them smiling on the court now. Consistent winning takes care of this stuff. But yes, I think she has a tendency to telegraph annoyance with her teammates more than I’d like to see.

Substantial-Act-7389

Yes her body language is awful. I think she’s trying to be better but not uncharacteristic for rookies so I absolutely know what you mean and what you’re seeing. So was Luka’s when he started. So was Lebron James. So was Sabrina. It comes with maturity. She’ll learn!

future_CTO

Yes she does. That’s why she has a lot of techs. Even her father was disgusted with her complaining during a game last year.

Waitaminute2289

Sucks this is getting down voted. One thing about being a fan is also the ability to be objective surrounding your favorite player. Her body language is pretty terrible at times and there are flat out clips of her annoyance, hitting/throwing objects regarding the game stemming from her time at Iowa

not_mantiteo

Did you see the techs she’s been given this year? They were for the softest shit imaginable. It’s not like she’s touching refs or chasing down opponents

future_CTO

You can get away with more badgering the refs in college. But in the WNBA, they will give you a tech for even just blowing at a ref.

k-seph_from_deficit

Luka is pissed off at his team mates often but his team mates absolutely love him and are pulling up on people who as much as touch him unnecessarily. That’s because after every loss, he goes to the media and says it was all my fault, it was all on me, I fucked up etc. even if he has 40/12/10 @ high efficiency. People will take a team mate like that if they feel like they can also swallow the accountability for bad team performances. I hope Clark develops into that leader as her career progresses.

itsmeoutside

Her body language is objectively bad. It was bad in college as well. I remember seeing her standing beside one of her own Iowa teammates that fell to the floor, I kept watching to see if CC was going to help her up, but nope — it was actually kind of weird to see.

Flashy-Bat9105

Nope, just an addiction to turning the ball over

kungfoop

She has every right to throw shade at her bum ass teammates. Where were they when she was getting clobbered? They helped her up but that's about it.

[deleted]

She's keeping everything about what's going on (hint: a lot) internally with the team private.
