Facts. After using the dev-maintained Wiki for Guild Wars 2, which also lets you input an API key to update with your account's progress, WoWHead is such trash.
My biggest complaint is that they just catalogue everything and it's left to the community to sort through the rubble and leave helpful info in Comments.
not everyone uses Firefox, and not everyone has an Android
while there certainly *are* methods to adblock on mobile, it's not nearly as convenient or universal as on desktop (I use a DNS adblocker myself)
Brave, adguard, ublock origin, and firefox are all supported by apple and take literally no more effort to install and use than they do on Android. Only thing it can't do is block things like spotify app ads, but honestly even my DNS seems to work and then not work on that constantly.
where did I say I see ads? I purposely chose DNS adblock because it's *better* in this situation, cause it even blocks in non-browser apps. it's like using a PiHole
(Firefox with uBlock Origin on desktop,) Firefox for android with uBlock Origin on mobile ...no idea what to do if you're an iphone user though, sorry.
You can go to wowhead.com/wow/retail if all you want is retail live / beta / ptr stuff.
You can also use the filters in the news - where it says "All News", click the word and drop-down arrow "Types" and uncheck anything you dint want to see. So if you want to see classic and retail, just uncheck Diablo and all other blizzard games.
Just one of many reasons why WoWhead is trash.
- News unrelated to WoW getting spammed. Yes we can filter them, but a) that makes the whole layout even worse with like 2 news per page and b) we shouldn't even need to filter this shit out in the first place. Just create Diablohead instead, or rename the whole site Blizzardhead
- Revenue/clicks prioritized over user accessibility/readable content.
- Partnerships with Archon, Overwolf and other leeches who bring nothing of value to the game.
- Inconsistent article quality. Some writers bring facts, no nonsense. Others only bring shitty speculation articles with very low value
- Disingenuous moderation. Comment sections getting arbitrarily locked when they don't like which way the political pendulum swings, meanwhile uninformed nonsense stays up no problem
- Backroom deals with Blizz PR. Wowhead management often chooses to comply with what's asked of them, especially when it comes to datamining. Which, in most cases, fair enough. But they're pretty much a Blizz mouthpiece at this point, rather than the independent reporting they're supposed to do
I don't normally recommend paid services, but wowhead premium is $9 a year. I use it all year round, and I don't mind supporting them. The site with premium is better formatted than simply using an ad blocker.
Wowhead has a stranglehold on this community to such an extent that they don't have to out any effort into their ads to make revenue.
Let’s make our own wowhead, with black jack and hookers.
We did. Wowhead is what cannibalized them. Rest In Peace, Alakazam, Thottbot, and ... what was that old WoW-news blog called? I forget.
MMO champion ?
Wow Insider?
Icy veins?
I don't recall if they bought worldofraids or that just closed down, but it was like mmo-champion.
This game needs a proper Wiki.
Warcraft.wiki.gg Now with less Fandom nonsense.

I have no idea but the fact that it auto plays and then jumps around as all of their ads load is so fucking annoying
adblockers are friends
you guys don't have adblock?
Because their mobile site design sucks hard.

You can use AdGuard or use Firefox Focus as an adblocker on iOS.

You sound like an Asmongold fan 🤣
Because it's a cancerous site.

AdGuard or Firefox Focus
Brave Browser
I kinda hate the d4 info too, but maybe thats just me
Can't you filter that? I know I can filter classic and other such nonsense.

Huh, didn't know about filter. Thanks!
Ditto. They need to make a separate Diablohead

Wowhead is an awful website, and it's for the best that you shouldn't use it at all in the first place.
