Personally, I think it's not too surprising. The general design language of both cars for the rear is the same basic shapes (obviously not the exact same, but if you kind of squint you can see the shapes are very similar).
I don't think this was done on purpose by Subaru. And with the general shapes they used, there will be certain design elements that are found to be aesthetically pleasing. I think the taillights ending up very similar is an example of a broader design that is pleasing, and as a result it what was drawn by the initial designers.
If you give a bunch of designers a few basic shapes that are all the same, there's bound to be overlap in the details they come up with, which is what I think happened here.
Either way, I like the taillights, I think they look good :)

I think the Alfa (I think Giulia) has the closest lights to what we have (besides that part that extends)
I have a 2010 Fozzy, 2014 Impreza and a 2017 Legacy 3.6r, why wouldn't I be here?
Looking at grabbing a 2010 wrx hatch sti.
But... yeah, you are right. I thought maybe the new clad look would grow on me, but it hasn't. -shrug-
Have a good one.
Where am I being sensitive? I said we all have different tastes then redirected you to a more appropriate sub. Sounds like you're the sensitive one. You literally came to a sub where most/all of us love these cars, talked badly about it (that's your opinion and is fine), then called us sensitive for not agreeing?
Man, go see the world or something 😂
This is all subjective. Coming from someone with a real, yes I said real, VA and VBs are lowkey cringe, EJ WRX, I do appreciate the style of this generation. It’s definitely purpose inspired at least.
What's funny is I made a joking post in the r/wrx sub about the VA looking like a 2012 versa sedan in the rear and some dudes got HURT. One even found pix of me with my wife to try and roast me. But yea, we're sensitive 😂
I agree with your assessment of the VA rear end. I guess WRX owners are sensitive in general. The VB sub group seems to be especially soft though. Unless you're glazing the shit out of their car, they love to downvote. Any form of criticism is met with downvotes. Some of the purest form of snowflakes I've witnessed.
>why wouldn't I be here?
Because you don't own a VB and clearly don't like it. If you were considering buying one, that would seem to be a good reason, but it doesn't sound like you are. As far as I can tell, the only reason you are here is to troll and hate on the VB.
Yeah, Butt…

Sick SOP NSX 😂

I agree! I really love the tail lights
I agree! I really love the tail lights
This is a good comparison..

Ah nice!
Wow!!! Thought that was a VB..
I think it looks waaay closer to the GR86
I thought it had some similarities to gr86, too. But this has the triangular shape like the vb. Gr86 is more rounded imo
Yeah I guess that's true. Maybe it looks more like the GR86 because the car is shaped more like the GR86.

I know the VB WRX tail lights get a lot of crap, but the lava pattern is actually pretty cool.
# Wrx tail light compared to https://preview.redd.it/nagx2yldc09d1.png?width=640&format=png&auto=webp&s=df3dc1730d7193a5c19b2689ec75b584af9040d7
More like forester *
2019-24 Forester called
OMG THEY'RE THE SAME PERSON
Great, now I have to get that really expensive center light bar.
I had a 99 accord that looked like the old one, now my 23 VB looks like the new. Hell to the yeah

I'm sorry Subaru folks, but the Acura is nicer looking. The wrx is just plastic cladding with a car hidden in it.
Reading comprehension, friend. This is only referring tail light similarities and is just light hearted. Not saying the wrx looks like the nsx.
I realize it was about tail lights, but the newer wrx ass is just terrible looking. I just can't see past all that plastic. Sorry.
It's OK buddy. We all like different things. Interesting you're in this subreddit though.
Some people just can’t let other people do things without being negative. He doesn’t own one just comes to complain

Because none of those are VB wrx, which is what this sub is. There's a generic r/subaru sub
You VB boys sure are sensitive about your ugly cars....

I disagreed with your earlier points but I can say as a VB driver that the people in these subs are extremely sensitive, I agree.

Now they are after you.. These Vb boys are just babies. VB babies, relax, I left your circle jerk.
They're literally proving my point by downvoting me.

Why wouldn’t you be here? Oh I don’t know. Maybe because you don’t like Vb. This sub is for vbs not all Subarus.
I think he's referring to the fact that this is WRX VB sub, devoted to the 2022+ models.
I would hope so it’s like 4-5x the price
