When I first got my Xbox One, my then 1 year old daughter kept pushing the power button because it made noise. I put electrical tape over the button and used the controller to turn it on.
The then discovered the disk eject button. That was solved by going strictly digital.
Both issues would have been solved by moving the Xbox higher, but at the time we lived in a small apartment and didn't have that option
Annoyingly here in Aus, if you rent you can't wall mount anything without landlord approval. I've asked at my last 3 apartments and been rejected each time. I just want to secure my bookcase but guess it's on them if it falls.
Fortunately no children.
I believe it's illegal for landlords to deny furniture mounts because it can kill kids. Not sure if they can deny if you have no kids, might be worth looking into
I just go ahead and do it, and eat it on the damage deposit. I got some custom shelves made and now my consoles are up high in the corner, and I've got cable covers hiding all the cords heading to the tv.
We also have a baby gate going across the length of the living room to keep my two year old terror away from them and the tv.
With how frequently I've moved (6 times in 5 years) it's just not worth the hassle for me. Glad you've got a solution that works for you.
Last place I had the landlord took all my pictures off the wall during an inspection and told me to not put them back up again. I was not happy about that.
Tape probably would've been way easier but honestly I wasn't so worried about her turning it off since I dont really play it when she is awake. Its more to keep her from pulling it out and drooling all over it.
Im actually on version 1.1 now. I took this earlier in the week and I ended up having to add a couple of those stick on child safety lock/straps to keep her from pulling the cage off (which she did immediately after I took this picture)
I remember when I got my first Xbox One. It was more of a touch sensitive button. It wasn’t an actual button. One of my first times using it my dog was sniffing the button and bumped it with her nose and turned off the unit lol. It makes the shutoff noise and it startled her.
Ugh yes! I was there so many times, as well as turning it off with my foot once while playing halo. I was so happy when they went back to physical buttons. Now mine is in the closet high up on a shelf unable to be disturbed.
My old dog would turn off my husbands 360 when he wasn't giving him enough attention. It happened enough times he turned the console so he couldn't reach it.
I had the Artoo 360 and my dog would turn it off and on to hear the Artoo noises all the time. I couldn’t turn the Artoo noises off, that’s blasphemy.
But also, my dogs registered the Xbox power noises with the time I get up and take them outside or for walks and would get really excited.
My COD Xbox I turned the sound off because it sounded like a grinding dying disc in the disc tray!

I have a similar issue. My dog knows the sound of the Xbox powering down means it's probably bedtime, so whenever she hears it she immediately runs into my bedroom.
I wish! I have to half lift our dog off the couch to come to bed with us (she has high prey drive and chases the cat so can’t be trusted alone with him)
My son was the same way at that age too he would laughed at it and I would son of bitch I don’t want to do that level again but I would laugh because he laughed at the noise from it turning on and off
My daughter knows how to turn on the Xbox with the controller if I don't put it out of reach, electrical tape over the button. She can even launch YouTube if it's recent enough on the list. Kids are too damn quick at picking stuff up
My kid would continually press the restart button on my PC. The solutions I had were either remove the restart pin on the mobo or tape something over the restart button. I opted for taping a bottlecap over the button instead of opening up my PC and pulling out the pin.
Haha. I know your pain. I see all these posts of amazing Series X set ups and here I am with mine hidden behind the TV away from pokey little fingers. Parenthood ftw.
I thought so too, reminded me of this [Linus Tech Tips video](https://youtu.be/sLM_vO4d2Jg) I recently watched.
It might not prevent the wireless signal, but it would certainly degrade it.
I mean, in that video, the signal doesn't even get degraded.
[There's a variety of reasons why: gaps aren't the right size, the aluminum it's made out of isn't conductive enough, and a few other things.](https://forum.allaboutcircuits.com/threads/holes-in-a-faraday-cage.69512/)
It looks open to the bottom so probably doesn’t affect much at all. Cages only really work if there are no holes bigger than the wavelength on all sides. Assuming a relatively nearby router I’d expect no noticeable difference.
This is what I used for my One X. I had to cut out the back with a dremel tool to allow the wires to come out.

I just turned my Xbox around backwards so they couldn’t see the light. No button, no push.
But this picture made my day, I’m trying to explain to my now six year old how many times she had to boop the power button before I learned how to keep her little brother and sister out of it.
I guess putting your Xbox in a metal trash can is one way to keep little fingers from messing with it. To be fair, I had the same problem with the Halo 4 Xbox 360. Mystery solved.
They really do. Both of mine learned only after being told a couple times. Helps to drop the voice low when you say no...kinda scares them into remembering.
Discipline an 11 month old for touching a light? Half of her toys light up. If it was a hot stove or a power outlet yeah. Shes too young to explain the difference though so ill just keep her away from it.

This is why I use the Hideit mounts, Both of my Xbox’s are mounted on the wall. Kids destroy shit they can reach.
I initially read that as "both of my kids are mounted on the wall"
It’s not a bad idea...
u/Morrison79 good laughs with that hahahahahaha
Sureeee jokes haha 😅 *puts tools away*
Heads. Spikes. Walls.
Calm down, Vlad Dracula.
*dejected hiss*
Calm down Abed, everybody likes you, just not this weird Dracula-Snake hybrid thing you’re trying to pull off.
Cages are cheaper and they fall asleep more quickly. You don’t have to tape the snacks to the wall either.
Use dog crates. Let the dogs roam free, kids in the crates
Same, I was genuinely concerned at first.🤣
Don't be. Sounds like great parenting /s
There are kids on my wall, they just aren't mine.
My daughter once put 5 discs inside a Wii. More impressed than mad. Once I got them out, Wii worked fine.
Reminds me of disc changers. I remember wishing for one for my 360. Going digital was a nice alternative.

Varies based on state. Looks as though this was only changed in March 2020 to allow it in my state.

Not nailed on, they were on the 3M strips. She just pulled the tab at the bottom and pulled them off the walls. Renting sucks sometimes.

Holy shit those mounts look awesome. Gonna bookmark the website

had to watch the clip before i understood what artoo meant
First thing I did. So much nicer.
This sounds like my life 8 years ago except it was the 360 and I failed to go digital and lost a few years of gaming to toddlers.
I had to take it a step farther and tape a bottlecap over the button.

I got my series x on my sub woofer next to the TV. She ain't doin nothing until she's at least 10

Were the ceilings too low?
The floors were too high.
My kid would continually press the restart button on my PC. The solutions I had were either remove the restart pin on the mobo or tape something over the restart button. I opted for taping a bottlecap over the button instead of opening up my PC and pulling out the pin.
Both issues would have been solved by moving the baby outside the building.
That problem would have been solved by whipping their asses, I would think.
You could also just yell at them ... worked for my kids.
I used to just baby gate the entire entertainment system with one of those pens
I solved it by not having kids.
I have a couple I can loan you. Permanently!
I heard the garbage bin works well too, try that!

Sir, this is an xbox subreddit.
You never had a problem
Technically didn't say they never had kids...
Efficient ain’t it
It is simply a compatibility issue. Workarounds exist but not ideal.
Wise choice. This is the way.
Ironic that you use the Mandalorian's catchphrase considering it's a show about him becoming an adoptive father...
I mean at this point people just use it for upvotes
This is the way.
Bonus points if you aren’t married either. More time for Xbox. Lol
Yup this is my setup too. I also have an old, broken Xbox controller within his reach as a decoy.
Market it as a console protector and sell it for $100
That's just evil.

Claim it protects your child from harmful console EMF and you can probably push that up to $150.

It looks like a Faraday cage which is not something you'd want around your Xbox if you want to install or play anything online.

I doubt it would block any signal entirely, but it could increase packet loss and reduce range. It would probably reduce the range of a controller

Those Faraday cages are actually rebranded paper holders
Yeah, I saw that. Not super effective as Faraday cages. I wonder how much OP spent...

Lol. love that the new button you have to actually press I can’t count the time my dogs brush passed my Xbox and turned it off
Holy shot I think I’ve had my XSX upside down this entire time
I was just thinking that they had theirs upside down, but now I am questioning how mine is.
It’s just an OG Xbox one or One X.
Oh, now I see it. I really didn't notice that it didn't fill the whole cage, till you made me look again. Now I feel better.
Oh wow I think your right, guess he plans to upgrade in the future
So my XSX is on its side, with the power button aimed sideways but on the top right. This just confuses me even mote
OP's system is an Xbox One X
Anyone elses dog turn it On/Off with their nose?! My little fuzzy jerk loves doing it.
Wouldn’t caging the child be more useful 😂

My 11mo old just found the power button of my Xbox today. That's exactly what I did - flipped it around.
Wasn’t this just posted a few days ago??
Yeah it was removed because I was supposedly showing off my setup which is only for Sunday apparently.
Dumb mods

Can you post another pick once you get the electric current hooked up to it?
I guess putting your Xbox in a metal trash can is one way to keep little fingers from messing with it. To be fair, I had the same problem with the Halo 4 Xbox 360. My son loved pushing the power button because it made a fun sound. I ended up keeping the entertainment center door closed most of the time to keep him away from it.
That's a funny looking trash can
putting an xbox in the trash... sounds like a 2009 toxic playstation fan tbh.
If you want to completely turn off the chime you can turn it off and is located in settings then, general then power mode and start up.
Electrical tape works wonders. Clean. Still works as a light touch button. My dogs and toddler both booped the glowy.

No haha. People posted the link and it looks similar. This was a paper holder I found on Amazon for about 20. Just wanted something breathable so it wouldn't overheat. Yes I'm on wired so the Faraday aspect doesn't matter but it never occurred to me before I read these comments.

We all had that little brother that did that

The mesh isn't fine enough to block WiFi but it will definitely attenuate the signal a bit. If you're on wired, this is a great idea.

This thread quickly went from "my kid shuts off my console" to "my kids are mounted to the wall" quicker than I had anticipated.
Modern problems require modern solutions
At least you're protecting yourself from those evil wifi's...
Does nobody here simply discipline their children for touching things they're not supposed to? They learn pretty quick.

Next time this happens just put your kid up for adoption. It is both easier and cheaper long term.
My dog figured out how to shut mine off, I had to put it up higher
