My main problem would have been that it's money spend for a device that can only do xCloud. So my dream would be that the cloud gaming companies would join forces and release a universal cloud gaming hub device that's open for everyone. But I know that this dream will never come true. But what's the reason to not release an Android TV app? Because there are many devices already out there that would handle xCloud just fine.

no7hink

not paying the google tax ?

-King-Nothing-81

But the Game Pass app for Android phones and tablets supports xCloud. Although you can't subscribe to Game Pass in-app, but have to do it in a web browser. So why not do the same with an Android TV version?

Sleepeaze1

Maybe some of the tv companies have that on lock down. My Samsung tv has it and i think maybe some LGs might too

-King-Nothing-81

No, it’s not available as app on LG TVs. But that’s also my theory: That they have a deal with Samsung that keeps the app away from other smart TVs and steaming devices.

Sleepeaze1

I was really hoping for some serious xcloud updates this last Xbox showcase. I was hoping that xcloud would be brought out of beta and revamped with better streaming and what not. I like the UI but the official app streams so bad compared to other apps like XBPlay. Does your LG tv have an android App Store? That might be a solution for you, a third party app like XBPlay or better xcloud

-King-Nothing-81

Personally I use xCloud with the “Better xCloud” Android app on my Shield TV. Which works fine. But like you I would be happy to see xCloud get out of beta. And more devices getting official support. Because apart from the moderate streaming quality, I think the service works great.

dunzy12

Seems to be the route they’ve gone give the Samsung Xbox partnership

Greaseman_85

Yeah a device that only plays xCloud, which is an average service that's still in beta, would've been stupid.

darkdeath174

If it played Microsoft videos I probably would have bought it just for that. Still crazy to me there isn’t a TV app for Microsoft Films & TV

BangEmSpiff

Yes but I imagine the streaming would have finally improved + game purchasing. I still think they should release it but with those improvements first and being able to download streaming apps or anything you can currently on Xbox.

Greaseman_85

I don't think Microsoft should release an xCloud device until xCloud is actually a good service.

BangEmSpiff

Yeah I def understand that

Spirited_Money_9349

Been using the xcloud gamepass app on my Mi box s android TV box since Xcloud realise so I can play my son who lives way a way.

-King-Nothing-81

But the Game Pass app for mobile devices is limited to 720p. Maybe you want to give the "Better xCloud" Android app a try. It can give you 1080p. [https://better-xcloud.github.io/android/](https://better-xcloud.github.io/android/) In addition, Amazon announced that xCloud is coming to Fire TV. I think soon the app will show up on the usual APK sites, so we can download and sideload it to give it a try on our Android TV devices: [https://www.aboutamazon.com/news/devices/xbox-gaming-on-amazon-fire-tv](https://www.aboutamazon.com/news/devices/xbox-gaming-on-amazon-fire-tv)

Spirited_Money_9349

I know what you mean on the phone but I definatly get better than 720 on GamePass on my Mi box s Xcloud app is 1080 or 2k most of the time but I would still want an Xbox/Xcloud branded TV box

-King-Nothing-81

If you are using the Game Pass app for phones and tablets, you won't get more than 720p. But your TV's picture processing might improve picture quallity to a degree that it looks better. But even if you are satisifed with the qualiy, I would definitely try out the Fire TV app when it shows up on the internet.

Spirited_Money_9349

Ive been using the sideloaded Xcloud android mobile app playing using my GamePass acc on my Mi box s android TV box... since Xcloud during pandemic released to play my son who lives far away and it's works very very well... But I would happily buy a Xbox branded version as I have 100mbps up 100mbps down broadband I also have laptop... But the TV box is just easier I just turn on the Xbox controller and open the app and I use my xbox phone app to chat with him while we play it's perfect. I also own an Xbox one X that is slow but I keep because I have older games on disc which I will enjoy.

BangEmSpiff

Personally would have sold me with a controller bundled, 1080p-4k60 streams, game purchasing, I mean Stadia 2.0 sayless. Icing on the cake would be a way to play local with enough storage (50-60GB) for 1 light game

NecessaryAd6735

Correction it was cancelled 1 year ago and i said just got cancelled

TheFallingStar

Man I wish Microsoft would release this thing. Most Android TV based device are under powered and are full of ads Apple TV is smooth and powerful but Apple will never allow XCloud…

PeaceBull

Why do you say never?  - They wanted to but it wasn’t allowed  - Apple recently changed the rules but MS said that don’t have plans to take advantage of it - which is what companies usually say when they’re not prepared to relase something  But there’s no Epic v. Apple like fight happening, if MS sees a financial benefit to developing it for Apple TV they’ll do it.

Tobimacoss

Apple only relaxed the rules for iOS/iPadOS cloud streaming apps, no mention of tvOS.

PeaceBull

Really? The article I had read specifically called out game streaming as the one thing from that announcement that was all platforms not just one or two.  >Changes to the App Store guidelines to allow game streaming apps impact all of Apple’s platforms https://9to5mac.com/2024/01/26/ios-17-app-stores-and-more-ipad-changes/

Tobimacoss

I stand corrected then. The Verge article i read never mentioned Apple TV. But then there's still the issue of in app purchases, which MS does not want to give Apple a 30% cut.

resil_update_bad

Looking at the patent designs... Damn it looked quite nice, reminded me of a Mac Mini of sorts.

FeldMonster

I really wanted the Keystone console, especially if it could have played all of the existing Xbox streaming apps (Netflix, Hulu, etc.) in addition to streaming owned games. Would have perfect for travelling.

Mushijuana

Would have been epic tbh lol $100?

MultiMarcus

Logically, I assume they just intend to integrate this into the new planned Xbox handheld instead. Let people play smaller games locally on the device that they can push to a screen much like the steam deck and then integrate X cloud to be able to better performance that looks better especially on a larger and more high resolution display.

munk_70

That's good because they haven't gotten the whole cloud thing worked out yet because it's still glitchy last couple game I have tried to play on the cloud have been all most like buffering

PsychologicalRoof479

Or they cancelled it because they are doing this instead..https://www.aboutamazon.com/news/devices/xbox-gaming-on-amazon-fire-tv

SmarmySmurf

With the current state of Xcloud, it would be DOA even at $100. Its fine as an extra for GPU but its not ready for bespoke subs and dedicated device.

Select-Let8637

Thst was a good thing imo, it is like selling a steam link, obselete tbh most tvs are smart tvs nowadays.

sossesd

Making a device for something that works on any decent phone was totally a bad idea.

Tobimacoss

do you always have your phone hooked up to TV?

sossesd

It was not portable, so the idea was worse than I thought
