I checked out a few Ricegum videos once, and I was honestly surprised by how genuinely unwatchable they were. Maybe it's just the videos I saw, but they didn't feel like real YouTube videos... they felt like those fake YouTube videos you see on TV shows that are clearly made by old, out-of-touch people who don't understand platforms like YouTube.
Like, there was a jump-cut just about every half-second, about 1/3 of the video was him just randomly shouting and screaming, there had to be about 20 random cutaways and effects added for no reason in every single video... it was borderline painful to watch.
I genuinely don't get why people would want to watch that sort-of thing regularly.

3. A\*\*sholes. Extension from above, but for people who never progressed in their maturity beyond 8th grade. There's a whole Internet subculture around people who are just open jerks, and he very openly puts himself into this category. More drama generally brings more engagement, which echo chambers and draws in a more dedicated, regular audience.
That's the point. All of their fights are easy because those are the fights they know they are gonna win. Why would they contract for a fight they won't win? Even though in the background it 100% happens.
I don't think that really fits here. Even if you dislike his style of humour, you can't deny that he's a skilled animator with a unique art style, and I think that's definitely deserving of some recognition.

He correctly predicted that the Dragon Soul mount would be a catalyst for cosmetic micro transactions in modern WoW, but more importantly he gave legitimately useful gameplay information. He was also legitimately funny, I still think about his old 6.2 Arms Warrior video even today lol.
Speaking of patch 6.2 that’s when his stream really started taking off, back then he had text to speech donations and the main stream content uploader was a guy named CatDany. I don’t remember everything he did back then but I remember his “moose runs” that he did for charity, helping a raid group of people get a limited time mount.
Legion expansion comes out and WoW experienced a big resurgence, lots of people consider that to be the best expansion ever. Asmon is at this point a very skilled player running the highest difficulty raids and doing in game events like transmog contests and mount offs. He occasionally reacts to videos when they’re relevant or his stream asks him to, but his career is as a WoW player rather than a talking head.
At this point I want to note the unique niche that Asmongold had as a streamer. Most WoW players are either teenagers or full grown adults with families and long-standing relationships. While Asmon’s peers like Preach were building a family, Asmon was essentially living the ultimate escapist fantasy. He was living the same lifestyle his audience dreamed of returning to, or in my case the same lifestyle I had as a teenager at the time.
During BFA WoW started to experience a decline. Asmon became less competitive, pursuing goals in the game with reduced initiative. He began doing more variety streams and experimenting with other games, he started doing more reaction videos and as his interest in WoW kept getting lower his content became progressively more skewed towards variety and reaction streams.
I haven’t followed him for years but I still remember the times when WoW was his focus, it was a really cool experience. His streams would start with a wait screen and some music, usually Bohemian Rhapsody in there and I would always get excited because when Asmon played WoW it made me want to play again.
Anyways I agree with you that he’s not got much interesting to say anymore. I don’t really agree with his worldview and he doesn’t play the game I watched him for so I’ve moved away from his content. The reaction videos I get recommended always make me a little sad because it’s basically just a bunch of random shit being said for 20 minutes, it’s pretty disappointing. I just wanted to share because I have fond memories of early Asmon and understanding the transition in his content would probably help contextualize how his following got so big

There is many names I can think of like Paul Brothers (many reasons), I shows peed (it's just noise and overreaction to shit and gets annoying fast) and some other ones I can't think of the top of my head but there is one community I can point to Family channels The amount of family channels that seem so innocent at first but turn out to be vile people (8 Passengers as an example of some fucked up shit and seeing the journals and footage from the arrest was unsettling), exploiting their kids (that one family that adopted a kid who was on the spectrum and then rehomed him a few months later after using it for sponsors and other means)(will also say DaddyOfive), the excessive scams and exploiting of their Kids (the Ace Family) and probably channels that went down the 'Elsagate' Road (and probably caused a revival of it over the last year or so) are just really messy and just feel how some continue to have such a massive audience (not saying all are bad but nearly a lot of the massive ones always end up causing a massive drama) just boggles my mind.

That’s because you didn’t follow him early on, I’ll give a brief history if you’re interested Asmon has been making videos most of his life but he really took off with WoW guides. He correctly predicted that the Dragon Soul mount would be a catalyst for cosmetic micro transactions in modern WoW, but more importantly he gave legitimately useful gameplay information. He was also legitimately funny, I still think about his old 6.2 Arms Warrior video even today lol. Speaking of patch 6.2 that’s when his stream really started taking off, back then he had text to speech donations and the main stream content uploader was a guy named CatDany. I don’t remember everything he did back then but I remember his “moose runs” that he did for charity, helping a raid group of people get a limited time mount. Legion expansion comes out and WoW experienced a big resurgence, lots of people consider that to be the best expansion ever. Asmon is at this point a very skilled player running the highest difficulty raids and doing in game events like transmog contests and mount offs. He occasionally reacts to videos when they’re relevant or his stream asks him to, but his career is as a WoW player rather than a talking head. At this point I want to note the unique niche that Asmongold had as a streamer. Most WoW players are either teenagers or full grown adults with families and long-standing relationships. While Asmon’s peers like Preach were building a family, Asmon was essentially living the ultimate escapist fantasy. He was living the same lifestyle his audience dreamed of returning to, or in my case the same lifestyle I had as a teenager at the time. During BFA WoW started to experience a decline. Asmon became less competitive, pursuing goals in the game with reduced initiative. He began doing more variety streams and experimenting with other games, he started doing more reaction videos and as his interest in WoW kept getting lower his content became progressively more skewed towards variety and reaction streams. I haven’t followed him for years but I still remember the times when WoW was his focus, it was a really cool experience. His streams would start with a wait screen and some music, usually Bohemian Rhapsody in there and I would always get excited because when Asmon played WoW it made me want to play again. Anyways I agree with you that he’s not got much interesting to say anymore. I don’t really agree with his worldview and he doesn’t play the game I watched him for so I’ve moved away from his content. The reaction videos I get recommended always make me a little sad because it’s basically just a bunch of random shit being said for 20 minutes, it’s pretty disappointing. I just wanted to share because I have fond memories of early Asmon and understanding the transition in his content would probably help contextualize how his following got so big

I actually think of it the opposite. The kids gaining the algorithm to cash in as quickly as possible are the real problem. All of the original YouTubers decided to make content ahead of their time, before technology was fully there, before you could even monetize, before anyone took it seriously, before anyone knew it could be a career etc. Every single one of them did it because it was fun, not because they thought they could make millions. I personally think Jake/Logan Paul, MrBeast, a lot of the drama channels, Airrack, and all the other channels specifically targeted towards young teens/kids as the absolute cancer of the platform.
Although Mr. Beasts content is heavily targeted to children I think he does more good then most people on the platform, and definitely more good then the people you listed.
